Starting a homeschool preschool unit on liquids versus solids can be both educational and enjoyable. From my experience, involving kids in hands-on activities such as sorting household items from the fridge into liquids and solids immediately grabs their attention and encourages curiosity. Incorporating playful elements like bubble foam play helps reinforce the concept by engaging multiple senses. Another effective method we used was introducing the letter 'Dd' connected with objects starting with that letter, which supports literacy alongside science exploration. Subitizing, or instantly recognizing quantities without counting, was practiced with small objects, helping with early math skills. Measuring liquids and solids together provides a practical understanding of volume and texture differences, especially when followed by art activities such as glue painting with frozen paint. Watching paint transition between solid and liquid states fascinated the children and deepened their grasp of science concepts. Games like a simple 'potion station' or adapted war cards can make learning dynamic and social, fitting well within mom life and stay-at-home parent routines. Overall, combining sensory play, literacy, and science in a playful, structured way has greatly enriched our homeschool preschool experience and can inspire other parents beginning their own journey.
