... Read moreOkay, seriously, if you haven't read 'The Mistake' by Elle Kennedy yet, what are you even waiting for?! As you know, I gave it a full five stars, and honestly, re-reading it just made me fall even harder for John Logan and Grace Ivers. This book isn't just another college romance; it's a deep dive into two incredibly complex characters who just click, set in a dynamic university world.
John Logan, the hockey star, starts off as your typical player, using parties and hook-ups as a distraction. But there's so much more beneath that charming exterior—you feel his internal struggle with his future and his growing despair. Seeing him navigate those personal demons, especially while desperately trying to win back Grace, is just *chef's kiss*. His growth throughout the story is incredibly satisfying. And Grace? Oh, Grace! I absolutely adore her journey. She's not the shy, quiet freshman he first knew; she comes back to Briar University older, wiser, and ready to demand respect. It's so empowering to watch her take control and make him work for that second chance, completely flipping the script. The dynamic between them is just electric – all that tension, the witty banter, and those heart-melting moments that make you want to highlight every other page.
What I really appreciate about 'The Mistake' is how Elle Kennedy builds such authentic sexual tension and emotional connection. It's not just about the physical; you genuinely root for them to overcome their past misunderstandings and find their way back to each other. The whole 'second chance' trope is done so beautifully here, showing that true love can conquer careless errors. You know how sometimes in romance novels, there are those lines that just hit you right in the feels, perhaps revealing a character's deepest, most vulnerable thoughts, even if 'it's true but she shouldn't say it'? This book is full of them. Every time I get to a particularly poignant part, like some of the raw confessions or internal thoughts that make you pause and reflect, I totally get why someone would be highlighting specific passages, maybe even on a page like 144! Those moments are truly what make the romance so impactful and memorable. The way their dialogue unfolds, sometimes blunt, sometimes tender, always feels real.
Being part of the 'OFF-CAMPUS' series, 'The Mistake' also immerses you in that fantastic college atmosphere. You get all the drama, the unbreakable friendships, and, of course, the thrilling world of college hockey. If you love a good sports romance where the characters develop so much individually and as a couple, you absolutely need to pick this up. It’s truly one of those books that stays with you long after you've turned the last page, making you want to re-read it again and again just to experience their captivating story. Trust me, you won't regret getting lost in Logan and Grace's world!
