Do you enjoy women’s sports?

This is an all to common headline amongst female athletes and it’s really frustrating as a female in the fitness industry that we still don’t have good answers or solid research on this.

*Whether your a fitness professional or just and avid spectator of women’s sports— what are your thoughts on this?*

I’ve spent several years of my collegiate career researching the nuances of this phenomenon and the problem is just that— there are many nuances and studying injuries is really complex.

Here’s the stone cold facts:

✳️Female athletes are at a much higher risk for ACL injuries when compared to males

✳️This increased risk could be attributed to training differences, differing anatomy (specifically Q angles), differing muscular activation patterns, or jumping/landing patterns— **note that none of these have provided explicit evidence on what factor(s) are significant**

Ultimately, what we are doing and the efforts for research are not enough. We must try to better understand these potential factors and figure out which ones are adaptable— meaning we can focus on more preventative measures. Sure, there is inherent risk with any sport and some injuries are not avoidable, but with this issue we must do better.

An ACL injury is devastating for any athlete and I pray for a speedy recovery for Georgia Amoore, but this just magnifies an issue that we as fitness experts have to do better about.
