Unpopular opinion: Dating Narcissists
nobody talks enough about how people have to start over after loving a narcissist and I mean anyone. Because let’s be honest, it’s not just men out here doing damage; there are narcissistic women too, and they’ll drain the life out of you just the same.
There’s nothing sweet about starting over. It’s ugly. It’s lonely. It’s realizing you gave everything your love, your loyalty, your energy, your damn peace to someone who only knew how to take. You find yourself questioning your own reality because they’ve gaslighted you so much you don’t even trust your own mind anymore. You start apologizing for things you didn’t even do, shrinking yourself just to keep the peace, begging to be seen and heard by someone who was never really listening in the first place.
Then when it’s finally over, people expect you to just “move on,” like healing from manipulation, emotional neglect, and mental warfare is something you can do overnight. It’s not. Starting over after a narcissist male or female means facing the parts of yourself that got dimmed in the process. It’s relearning your worth, your boundaries, your power. It’s unlearning how to love through pain and calling that love “loyalty.”
Ain’t shit sweet about that kind of healing. It’s messy, it’s uncomfortable, and it’ll break you open before it builds you back up. But the comeback? That’s the real flex. Because the person who survives that kind of love learns how to never settle for less than peace again.
