Urgency is not chemistry

A lot of women mistake intensity for compatibility.

But urgency is not chemistry.

Urgency feels like:

• Racing thoughts

• Checking your phone repeatedly

• Anxiety when they go quiet

• Relief when they respond

That’s not connection.

That’s nervous system activation.

Unpredictability spikes dopamine.

Dopamine feels exciting.

Excitement feels like chemistry.

But chemistry that requires anxiety isn’t stability.

Here’s how to tell the difference:

💞 Chemistry + Compatibility Feels Like:

• Consistent effort

• Clear communication

• Calm responses

• No guessing

It doesn’t spike.

It builds.

Ask:

“Is this excitement or activation?”

Most of the time, activation fades when you regulate.

Compatibility does not.

📝 Journal Prompt:

“When was the last time calm felt boring to me?”

That answer will tell you a lot.

High standards require nervous system awareness.

💬 Have you confused urgency with connection before?

💚 Save this for when the spike hits.

... Read moreFrom my own experience, I’ve realized how easy it is to confuse urgency with real chemistry, especially when emotions run high early in a relationship. That racing heartbeat and constant phone checks often feel thrilling, but they can mask anxiety rather than true connection. One important lesson for me was recognizing that unpredictability triggers dopamine spikes which mimic excitement—making me think the relationship was special when I was really just responding to nervous system activation. Over time, I noticed that this 'excitement' fades as I calm down, but genuine compatibility remains consistent and steady. A key indicator I learned is observing communication patterns. Does the effort feel mutual and balanced, or is it mostly erratic bursts? Chemistry combined with compatibility shows up as consistent effort, clear communication, calm responses, and no guessing games—something that builds over time rather than spiking suddenly. A journaling prompt that helped me a lot was reflecting on "When was the last time calm felt boring to me?" Often, the urge for constant stimulation revealed my preference for urgency over compatibility. For anyone navigating their emotions, understanding these differences can lead to healthier relationships with less anxiety. It’s empowering to set high standards by tuning into your nervous system signals and distinguishing activation from true connection. Save this insight for those moments when you feel the spike hit—recognizing it can help you choose connections that truly nurture lasting chemistry.
