"You're Not Stuck- Stop Arguing with the Elevator"

United States
2025/12/23 Edited to

... Read moreWe've all been there, right? That frustrating feeling of being absolutely stuck, like you're on an elevator that just won't move, no matter how many times you press the button. For a long time, I felt like I was constantly 'arguing with the elevator' in my own life – pushing against perceived obstacles, getting frustrated when things didn't go my way, and just generally feeling paralyzed by circumstances. But here's the thing I eventually learned: you're not stuck. Often, the feeling of being stuck comes less from external barriers and more from an internal 'argument' we're having with ourselves or with the natural flow of life. It’s about our perspective and how we react to challenges. I realized that my own resistance, my own fear of change, and my own tendency to overthink were the real 'arguments' holding me back. It wasn't the elevator that was faulty; it was my approach to using it. So, how do you stop arguing and start moving? For me, it started with a simple shift in mindset. Instead of fighting against what is, I began to accept it and then look for alternative routes. Think of it this way: if the elevator isn't working, are you going to stand there and argue with a closed door, or are you going to look for the stairs? Or perhaps even a different building entirely? Here are a few practical steps that helped me when I felt like I was 'stuck' and constantly 'arguing with the elevator': Identify the 'Argument': What exactly are you resisting? Is it fear of failure, fear of success, a need for perfection, or clinging to old habits? Pinpointing the internal resistance is the first step to dismantling it. For me, it was the fear of not knowing the exact outcome. Reframe Your Situation: Instead of saying, "I'm stuck," try, "I'm currently evaluating my options," or "I'm in a period of transition and growth." This subtle change in language can profoundly impact your outlook. I started telling myself, "I'm not stuck, I'm just figuring out the next floor." Take a Small Step, Any Step: When the elevator isn't moving, even a tiny action can create momentum. This could be researching a new skill, reaching out to someone for advice, or simply organizing your workspace. These small wins build confidence and show you that movement is possible. I started with just 15 minutes a day dedicated to a new project. Embrace the 'Wait' (or the 'Walk'): Sometimes, progress isn't instant. Just like waiting for an elevator, there might be a period of patience required. But during this 'wait,' you don't have to be idle. Can you learn something new? Network? Prepare for the next phase? Or, perhaps, take the 'stairs' – find a different, more active path to your goal. I learned that while I was 'waiting,' I could be 'walking' towards competence and readiness. Celebrate Micro-Progress: Don't wait for the grand arrival at your destination to celebrate. Acknowledge every small step forward. This positive reinforcement fuels motivation and reminds you that you are indeed moving, even if it feels slow. Every time I completed a small task, I'd give myself a mental high-five. Remember, the power to move forward often lies within us, not solely in external circumstances. You truly are not stuck unless you choose to remain in that 'argument' with your metaphorical elevator. It's time to release that resistance and confidently press the button to your next level!

A white background with a grey lamp and books, overlaid with text: "If you're in your 'I feel Stuck but I don't know Why?' era This is for you."
Text on a light grey background states: "Sometimes, you're not resisting the task - you're resisting the emotion underneath it. → Fear of failure. → Fear of judgment. → Fear of not being good enough. (The Untethered Soul)"
Text on a light grey background reads: "Your brain clings to the familiar - even if it hurts. You stay in the cycle because it's predictable. Your mind calls it 'safety' - but your body calls it 'stuck.' (Atomic Habits)"
You always feel stuck but You don’t know Why👇
You keep saying you’re stuck. But deep down, you know it’s not about laziness. It’s about feeling disconnected from yourself. You don’t recognize your patterns, but you don’t know how to escape them either. You’re tired of repeating the same cycles — the starting, the stopping, the spiraling.

STOP ARGUING WITH REALITY

Not every conversation deserves your energy. Some people just want to argue for the drama and attention. And the moment you engage, you’re already giving them exactly what they want. That’s why arguing with miserable people will never get you anywhere. They’re committed to being negative.

ADHD and arguing
Arguing can be significantly harder with ADHD due to heightened emotional dysregulation and poor impulse control, leading to conflict escalating. The difficulty pausing between thought and speech means you often blurt out things you may instantly regret. Here is how it usually goes. #adhd
