Green sapphire, long known as "green shining," is one of the Fancy Sapphire gems that are remarkable for their physical durability and complex dimensions. Although not as popular as blue sapphire in the past, green sapphire has risen to the mineral that has attracted a lot of attention among mineral collectors and gemology enthusiasts.
* * Mineralogy and Gemology * *
Green sapphire is classified as Corundum. It has a chemical formula, Al2O3. The crystal structure is hexagonal. What makes this sapphire dominant over other green minerals is the hardness at the 9th level, according to the Mohs scale, which makes it very resistant to scratching. It has a refractive index of 1.76 to 1.77 and a density of 3.98 to 4.10.
The green occurrence of the mineral structure is the result of the replacement of the trace elements, with iron (Fe) as the main factor. If there are different proportions of titanium in the mineral structure, it will cause a shade of bluish-green. In microstructure, the green of some sapphire does not form a single texture, but by alternating layers of blue and yellow stripes inside the mineral texture. With the naked eye, the light is mixed to see green.

Although typical green sapphire can be found on the market, highly clean, uniformly colored and unheated (unheated) minerals are considered to have a high degree of rarity.
