New WIP!
I might be crazy... I may have started another table runner before I was officially done with the first one 😅
I've had these limited edition black Friday cotton cakes from Hobbii for a long time, though, so I'm glad I finally have a use for one of them 😂
You know that feeling when you have a perfectly good WIP going, but then a new yarn calls to you? That's exactly what happened when I unearthed these gorgeous Hobbii Black Friday cotton cakes! I might be crazy, but I just had to cast on for another table runner, even before my first one is truly finished. Sometimes inspiration strikes, and you just have to go with it! Crochet table runners are such a fantastic project. They're versatile, adding a handmade touch to any dining table, coffee table, or even a dresser. Plus, they often work up quicker than a full blanket, giving you that satisfying finished project feeling without a huge time commitment. If you're looking for a pattern, there's a huge variety out there, from simple stitches perfect for beginners to intricate lace designs for more experienced crocheters. For this project, I'm using cotton cakes, and I highly recommend cotton for table runners. Why? Cotton is durable, holds its shape well, and most importantly, it's washable! Spills are inevitable on a table, so being able to toss your runner in the wash is a huge bonus. Hobbii's cotton cakes are often a great choice for their beautiful color transitions and quality. When picking your yarn, consider the weight – a worsted or DK weight often works well for a substantial, yet not too bulky, runner. When it comes to patterns, the possibilities are endless. For a classic look, a simple single crochet or half double crochet works beautifully, creating a solid fabric. If you want something with more texture, stitches like the moss stitch, waffle stitch, or even a basketweave can add visual interest. For a lighter, more elegant feel, consider a filet crochet design or a shell stitch pattern. I often browse Pinterest or Ravelry for free crochet table runner patterns to get ideas for stitch combinations and sizing. Don't be afraid to customize! The beauty of crochet is that you can easily adjust the length and width of most table runner patterns to fit your specific needs. Measure your table and decide how much overhang you'd like. Typically, a runner should hang down about 6-12 inches on each end. You can also experiment with different border designs to give your runner a unique finish. Once your beautiful table runner is finished, proper care will ensure it lasts for years. Always check your yarn label for specific washing instructions. For most cotton runners, a gentle machine wash in cold water and air drying flat is ideal to prevent stretching or shrinking. A light press with a cool iron can also help keep it looking crisp. Starting this new project with my Hobbii cotton cakes has me so excited! It's a great reminder that sometimes, the best projects are the ones we just have to start.
