Bedtime snacks
As a girly with tummy issues I know it is recommended to not eat before bed; however, I often forget to eat throughout the day so by the time I get home - my first meal is dinner.
I usually get hungry RIGHT before bedtime and if I don’t put something on my stomach I won’t sleep.
This is actually my dinner + bedside snacks 😂.
Been super busy all day, had a really late lunch, so now I eat before trying to relax.
I have severe IBS so my stomach is ALWAYS not right. I started incorporating probiotics about 6 months ago and it has really helped with abdominal pain and bloating. I don’t think anything can keep me regular. Activia has really helped me.
My snacks don’t vary much. I have safe foods and if I find something new that I like it’s rare.
1. Because I don’t stray from my safe foods very often, so I rarely try new things. I’m always scared of triggering a flare.
2. I have a problem with textures, so if I haven’t had it before and the texture looks off I won’t try it.
Do you keep snacks at your bedside?
What are some of your favorites?

After years of struggling with IBS and the dilemma of late-night hunger, I've really refined my approach to bedtime snacks. It's a delicate balance, right? You want to satisfy that gnawing hunger so you can actually sleep, but without triggering discomfort. I know firsthand how a poor snack choice can lead to a night of tossing and turning, or worse, a flare-up. So, I’ve put together some of my favorite healthy and tummy-friendly options that have become staples in my bedside snack rotation. Why Healthy Bedtime Snacks Matter (Especially for Us!) For anyone with digestive issues, what you eat before bed isn't just about curbing hunger; it's about setting your body up for a restful night. A light, healthy snack can help stabilize blood sugar, prevent acid reflux, and provide a gentle boost of nutrients without overwhelming your digestive system. It’s about choosing foods that support, rather than disrupt, your body’s natural rhythm. My Personal Picks for Digestion-Friendly Bedtime Bites: The Mighty Yogurt (My #1 Go-To!): This is a non-negotiable for me, especially a strawberry-flavored yogurt cup like the one I often have. The probiotics are fantastic for gut health, something I've personally seen major benefits from, like with Activia. Look for yogurts with live active cultures – they're superheroes for digestion. Plain Greek yogurt is also amazing for its protein content, keeping you full longer. If you’re dairy-sensitive, there are great lactose-free or plant-based options too! It’s creamy, cooling, and just feels good on a sensitive stomach. Smart & Satisfying Nutty Bites: When I crave something with a bit more crunch, a small handful of almonds is perfect. They’re packed with magnesium, which can aid sleep, and offer healthy fats and a little protein. Just remember, portion control is key here – a small handful (around 10-15 almonds) is plenty. I also sometimes reach for a *probiotic immune booster trail mix*, but I'm careful to pick one without too many added sugars or overly rich ingredients that might upset my stomach. It’s a great way to get a mix of good fats and a little fiber. Fruity & Fiber-Rich Choices: Don't underestimate the power of fruit before bed. I recently discovered kiwi fruit is a fantastic night snack. Not only is it refreshing, but some studies suggest it might help with sleep due to its serotonin content. Other great options include a small apple with a tiny smear of almond butter, or a handful of berries. They offer natural sweetness and fiber without being too heavy. Light Protein Power-Ups: Sometimes, you just need something a bit more substantial, but still light. A small piece of string cheese or a few slices of turkey can hit the spot. While I've occasionally had a ham and cheese lunch kit or snack sticks as very late dinners when I'm desperate, for a true bedtime snack, I lean towards simpler, less processed proteins. Think a hard-boiled egg or a small cottage cheese serving. The goal is enough protein to keep you satiated without causing digestive effort. Crucial Tips for Happy Tummies at Night: Listen to Your Body: This is the most important advice. What works for me might not work for you. Pay attention to how different foods make you feel. Keep a food diary if you need to. Portion Control is King: Even healthy snacks can cause discomfort if you eat too much. Aim for a small portion – just enough to curb hunger, not to feel full. Avoid Triggers: Steer clear of anything acidic, spicy, greasy, or high in sugar close to bedtime. These are common culprits for digestive upset and reflux. Timing Matters: Try to eat your bedtime snack at least an hour before you plan to lie down, if possible. This gives your digestive system a head start. Finding your perfect bedtime snack routine takes a little experimentation, especially with a sensitive stomach. But once you find those 'safe foods' that soothe rather than agitate, you’ll wonder how you ever slept without them! What are your favorite tummy-friendly late-night bites?

I need to get into the habit of buying healthier snacks for after hour cravings. I started wanting full meals at night and of course that’s not good to do
