Book Review Pt.2

!! SPOILER WARNING !!

Book name: Paradise Island

Author: Sam Golbach, Colby Brock and Gaby Triana

Genre: Paranormal Fiction/ Young Adult

Intro: At first I thought it was based on a true story, until the ending. Which in my opinion was so predictable and just not good.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

My review: Honestly, this book was a let down for me. I didn’t really enjoy it, there was nothing really all that special about this book in my opinion. It’s your traditional vacation trip and plans take a turn. I thought it was very odd how Colby was so “infatuated” by a mermaid statue of a 15/16 year old girl..? I get 18+ but that girl is still a minor! I get it’s a statue it just gave me the ick. Especially the way he was describing her… yeah NOT IT !!

I can definitely tell they were going for a more PG-13 type of read for there younger viewers and readers. As descriptions were not that great overall, it was hard to get an overall image of the Belle Estate as I was reading. It was almost a lazy way of writing in this book..?

Meeting Trey and Georgia was very boring, Nate received a text and begged to go even though Colby wasn’t for the idea, as he met him at party previously in LA. He didn’t like the way he was talking him down about living off of YouTube and content creating. Then finds out Georgia and him “own” the Estate on the North Shore of Hawaii. Very mediocre. Very predictable once again. I’m over this book and onto the next.

Overall, It’s not great but it is not the worst book I’ve read either. I would honestly wait until this is on sale it’s not really worth the price I paid w/shipping. More book reviews coming soon !! ❤️🙌

... Read moreAs a fellow bookworm, I know the excitement of picking up a new release, especially when it’s by creators you admire, like Sam Golbach and Colby Brock. Their transition from YouTube sensations to published authors with 'Paradise Island' alongside Gaby Triana definitely sparked a lot of curiosity, and I was eager to see how their unique storytelling would translate to the written word. When popular YouTubers venture into authorship, there's always a unique set of expectations. Fans often hope for a glimpse into the creators' world or a story that echoes the vibe of their video content. For 'Paradise Island,' a paranormal young adult novel, I went in with an open mind. The genre itself offers so much potential for thrilling mysteries and intriguing supernatural elements, especially when set in an exotic location like a mysterious island. However, the challenge for any author, regardless of their background, is to build a compelling narrative that stands on its own, with vivid descriptions and characters that resonate. My initial impression, as highlighted by the 'My Honest BOOK REVIEW Rating: 3/5' I gave, was that while it had some intriguing elements, it didn't quite hit the mark for me personally. The idea of a traditional vacation taking a dark turn is a classic trope in paranormal fiction, yet the execution didn't always feel fresh. Predictability can sometimes dampen the thrill of a mystery, making it harder to get fully immersed in the suspense. I found myself anticipating plot points rather than being surprised by them, which, for a paranormal thriller, can be a bit of a letdown. Moreover, the descriptive language plays a huge role in bringing a story to life. In a paranormal setting, the atmosphere is key – you want to feel the eerie chill, picture the mysterious estate, and truly connect with the characters' fears and discoveries. When descriptions fall short, it can make it difficult to visualize the world the authors are trying to create, leaving the reader somewhat detached. This was an area where I hoped for more depth, to truly lose myself in the 'Paradise Island' experience. And then there are those specific moments that just give you 'the ick.' In YA fiction, character interactions and portrayals are incredibly important, particularly when dealing with age and romantic undertones. While I won't dive into the exact spoiler, when a character's fascination feels inappropriate or glossed over, it can pull you right out of the story and make you question the narrative choices. It's a fine line to walk in YA, ensuring characters are relatable and their actions justifiable within the story's context. Ultimately, a book review is a subjective experience. What one reader finds disappointing, another might absolutely love, especially if they are deeply connected to Sam and Colby's content and are looking for an accessible, light paranormal read. For a younger audience or someone just getting into the paranormal YA genre, 'Paradise Island' could still offer an entertaining escape. However, if you're a seasoned reader of paranormal fiction looking for complex plots, deep character development, and unexpected twists, you might find yourself wanting a bit more. It's always a good reminder that every book offers a unique journey, and it's up to each reader to decide if it's the right one for them.

As a long time Sam and Colby fan and someone who aspires to be an author, I felt like I was reading fanfiction on Wattpad. Definitely wasn’t book material.
