Oh yeahhhh I like to play piano for fun too, I’m an amateur but few things bring me more pleasure than this. #piano #freestyle #foryou Denver
It's so wonderful to connect with others who also find immense joy in playing the piano, even if you're just an amateur like me! My original post touched on the simple pleasure it brings, and I wanted to expand a bit on how I cultivate that feeling and hopefully inspire some of you. For many years, I admired piano players from afar, thinking it was too late for me to learn. But one day, I just decided to go for it. I bought a simple digital piano and started experimenting. My biggest advice for anyone thinking of starting, or picking it up again, is to let go of the pressure. You don't need to be aiming for concerts; just aim for personal enjoyment. It’s truly about holding space for you to explore and express yourself. One thing that really helps me is creating a dedicated, peaceful practice corner. It doesn't have to be fancy, just a spot where you can sit down and feel comfortable. I light a candle sometimes, or make sure my headphones are charged. This little ritual helps me transition into a mindset where I can truly enjoy some peace away from daily stresses. It's my personal sanctuary where I can just be with the music. When it comes to freestyling, I don't follow strict rules. I often start with a simple chord progression I like, or just a few notes that sound good together, and then see where my fingers take me. Sometimes I imagine I'm trying to serenade you (or myself!) or create a soundtrack for my thoughts. There's no right or wrong; it's all about experimenting and finding what resonates with you in that moment. Don't worry about sounding perfect; just let the music flow. Beyond the sheer fun, playing the piano has become a huge source of mental well-being for me. It's a wonderful way to de-stress and practice mindfulness. When I'm focused on the keys, everything else fades away, and I’m completely present. I've found that it genuinely fosters positivity only here in my little musical world. It's a creative outlet that recharges my spirit. So, if you've ever thought about learning, or if you're already on your amateur piano journey, know that everyone is welcome in this space of musical exploration. Don't compare your progress to others; celebrate every small step and every moment of joy you find at the keys. Whether you play for five minutes or an hour, it's all valuable. Just keep playing for fun, and let the music bring you the peace and happiness you deserve!
