This is how Perfectionism impacted my life

I have the kinda perfectionism that leads to awful procrastination because I need my conditions to be perfect to do a long task. Like when I’d have a paper due I’d tell myself I’d start at midnight and would take an hour making the perfect writing playlist, spend too long picking the best show/movie for background noise, then I’ll need to eat something, pre writing power nap turns into hours long nap, then suddenly I have two hours to churn the paper out.

Those procrastination grades were always so good though 😭

... Read morePerfectionism can significantly influence various aspects of life, particularly how we approach tasks and manage our time. Those who identify as perfectionists may find themselves trapped in cycles of procrastination, fueled by the constant need for ideal conditions to begin a project. This article illustrates how perfectionism can lead to hours of pre-task rituals like creating the perfect playlist or preparing a comfortable workspace, which often delays the actual work needed to be accomplished. Understanding this dynamic is crucial because perfectionists may prioritize their desire for flawless performance over timely completion. By learning to accept that imperfect results are part of the journey, individuals can free themselves from the paralyzing grip of procrastination. Techniques such as setting realistic goals, breaking tasks into manageable parts, and adopting a more compassionate mindset toward oneself can help mitigate these tendencies. Ultimately, embracing imperfection could lead to greater satisfaction and productivity in both personal and professional endeavors.

I’m a brand designer so I spend hours or days even trying to put together the perfect presentation for Instagram until I get fed up and never complete it!
