Why I am NOT a Huge Fan of Melatonin
I have been taking melatonin recently and here are my thoughts!
It does cause me to fall asleep quickly as it should. However I find that my sleep is more interrupted throughout the night, I often have weird dreams, and sometimes I feel groggy the next day. I try to only take one gummy instead of the dose of two. I feel like less is better if I can get away with that!
I do like it as a backup but it is definitely not something to have every night to go to bed. I really prioritize my sleep and I think melatonin is a last resort situation or maybe to use if you are jet lagged. It is definitely not sustainable long term and I wonder if it can mess with your hormones since melatonin is a natural hormone in the body!
Melatonin, while often viewed as a quick solution for sleep issues, comes with its own set of challenges. Many users report interrupted sleep patterns and vivid dreams, which can disrupt the restfulness melatonin is supposed to provide. While it might be effective for falling asleep quickly, daily reliance on melatonin is not advisable. It's also important to be mindful of the effects on hormone regulation, as melatonin is a natural hormone that the body produces. For those experiencing sleep problems, alternative techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), sleep hygiene practices, and lifestyle changes—like reducing caffeine and screen time before bed—may prove more beneficial in the long run. In addition, using melatonin strategically, such as during travel to combat jet lag, can be a more balanced approach. This insight encourages readers to weigh the pros and cons of melatonin and consider holistic strategies for improving sleep quality.

When I take melatonin I get the weirdest dreams too, almost like I am in a horror movie and everything is super vivid. It’s so weird.
