This new “climbing on everything” phase is rough🫠😮💨
Lots of falls. Lots of tears.
The toddler climbing phase is truly an adventurous time full of both excitement and challenges. As toddlers become keen on exploring their physical limits, they tend to climb on everything, which often leads to frequent falls and, understandably, some tears. From personal experience, staying close and offering constant encouragement helps toddlers build confidence while ensuring safety. One of the biggest lessons I learned during my child's climbing phase was the importance of patience and preparedness. Having a well-stocked first-aid kit and comfortable clothing for quick changes can make an outdoor adventure feel less stressful. Additionally, choosing playgrounds with age-appropriate and well-maintained equipment significantly reduces the risk of injuries. Soft ground surfaces like wood chips or rubber mats are ideal for cushioning bumps. Socially, this phase is also crucial as toddlers develop coordination and learn to interact with other children. Joining local playground groups or mom communities can provide support, shared experiences, and even tips on the best local spots for toddlers to safely explore. Through these interactions, both toddlers and parents find a sense of camaraderie. Incorporating fun and safe climbing activities at home, such as soft climbing blocks or foam playsets, can further develop a toddler’s motor skills without the same risks found outdoors. Ultimately, embracing the 'climbing on everything' phase with a proactive approach can turn those falls and tears into milestones of growth and independence.
