I actually feel bad for those scammers

I got a phone call claiming to be from the fraud department at my bank. He said that someone tried to change my address on my account. He read me my current address and the new address. I don't recognize the address and really thought that this is something serious. It's not something like I just have to change my password and stuff, so I mean it when I said I want to discuss this in person.

He rejected me and kept asking to settle this over the phone. I insisted in going to the bank, and he then started to to talk about suspicious transactions on my card. I hung up because I sensed that it might be a scam and I'm getting annoyed by his rude attitude.

I did call the bank and confirmed that they will never call about this.

I'm wondering what might happen if I just panicked and followed his instruction? Will he ask about my account info?

... Read moreReceiving a phone call that appears to be from your bank’s fraud department can be alarming, especially when they mention changes like an address update or suspicious transactions. Scammers often use tactics such as reading your current and new address to gain your trust and create a sense of urgency. They insist on resolving matters immediately over the phone, which is a red flag because legitimate banks rarely conduct sensitive account changes via unsolicited calls. If you receive such a call, do not share any personal or financial information. Scammers typically ask for details like your account number, password, PIN, or verification codes under the guise of confirming your identity. They may also pressure you to act quickly or threaten negative consequences to evoke panic and make you comply. Your decision to insist on discussing the matter in person and hanging up when the caller became rude was a wise move. Always verify with your bank independently by using official phone numbers or mobile banking apps—not by calling back the number given by the caller. Banks usually notify customers through secure channels and will not ask for sensitive information over the phone. If you had panicked and provided any account information, scammers could have used it to access your accounts, make unauthorized transactions, or commit identity theft. It’s essential to keep an eye on your bank statements and report any suspicious activity immediately. Bank scams have become increasingly sophisticated, utilizing social engineering to deceive victims. To protect yourself, be aware of common signs such as callers refusing face-to-face meetings, requesting immediate payment or verification, and making threats. Educate yourself and your loved ones about these scams and use measures like two-factor authentication to enhance account security. In summary, staying calm, recognizing scam tactics, verifying information independently, and never rushing into giving personal details can protect you from falling victim. Sharing stories like this helps create awareness and encourages others to be vigilant against such fraud attempts.

A chat message from a sender asking, 'what's something you're passionate about that not many people know?' as an icebreaker question, consistent with AI-generated prompts.
A chat message from a sender asking, 'what's something that excites or inspires you lately? I promise this one's not from any icebreaker page,' attempting to sound less generic.
A chat message from a sender suggesting, 'Let's talk about ideas, opinions, or things happening in the world that interest you,' after being confronted about generic questions.
Scammers using AI
The 3 examples are AI using ‘ice breaker questions for first dates’ type of prompts combined. How am I certain? Because I’ve seen the 3 questions multiple times, and when they respond without using AI, you see the huge difference in grammar- especially tenses! These examples are from a chat here
