... Read moreOkay, so Pride Month has officially wrapped up, and I know a lot of us might feel a tiny bit of a dip after all the celebrations, parades, and rainbow-filled feeds. But here's the thing I always remind myself, and what I truly believe: just because June is over, doesn’t mean we stop being Queer. That's year-round, honey! My pride isn't a calendar event; it's woven into the very fabric of who I am, every single day.
For me, embracing continuous queer pride beyond Pride Month is about living authentically. It's in the small, everyday choices – how I express myself, the conversations I have, and the spaces I choose to occupy. It's about finding those "Real Moments" where I feel truly seen and celebrated, not just by others, but by myself. Sometimes, it's as simple as wearing something that makes me feel fabulous and gender-affirming, or speaking up for what I believe in, knowing my voice matters. It's about remembering that, as Quinta Brunson so brilliantly put it, "people be gay," and that's a beautiful, natural part of the world.
Keeping the spirit of pride alive isn't always about grand gestures. It’s about cultivating a personal #safespace wherever I go, whether it's my home, my online interactions, or the community I build around me. I love connecting with other #gaysoflemon8, sharing stories, and finding solidarity. Those connections are vital for feeling supported and understood, long after the last confetti has fallen from the Pride parade.
I also find so much joy and affirmation in queer culture, from art and music to simply sharing relatable experiences – much like the humor you find in a good #pridemonth meme. Those little bursts of recognition and laughter are powerful ways to connect and reinforce that we're far from alone. It's about seeing our stories reflected, whether in a blockbuster movie or a niche online community around a beloved show or hobby. Finding groups where you can be your full, authentic self, discussing shared passions without having to hide any part of your identity, is incredibly liberating.
Ultimately, year-round pride means making a conscious choice to celebrate my identity, to protect my joy, and to contribute to a world where everyone can feel proud to be themselves. It's a commitment to #embracevulnerability and truly #beyourself, not just for a month, but for life. So, while June might close its chapter, the story of my pride, and hopefully yours too, continues to unfold, vibrant and strong, every single day.
