I see nothing as it is now
Of course I see nothing as it is now, because everything I see is filtered through the lens of the past. I couldn’t possibly see objectively. And while this concept is baffling to me, it is also the most sensible thing I have ever heard because, like in 12 Step teachings, I must admit that I alone cannot fix things because if I could, surely I would have done so by now. So I begin by admitting that my vision must be incorrect. There must be something that I’m just not seeing. I throw my hands up in surrender and admit that I do not see anything as it is now.

Reflecting on the idea of not seeing "as it is now" really resonated with me because it highlights how much our past experiences and biases influence our perception. In my personal journey, I found that admitting I couldn’t see things objectively was a crucial step toward healing. It reminded me of a practice from A Course In Miracles, where the focus is on recognizing that what we perceive is clouded by false ideas shaped by past experiences. This acknowledgment opens the door to undoing those misconceptions. Practically, this means I started to observe my surroundings and my reactions with a fresh awareness, often reminding myself, "I do not see this as it is now." Whether it was a conversation that triggered old emotions or a situation that seemed familiar but was actually different, this mindset helped me stay present and reduce reactive patterns. I also found value in the idea that understanding does not have to come immediately. Instead, accepting that I don’t understand fully is what allows for true insight to eventually emerge. This can be unsettling, but it’s liberating because it means I’m not expected to fix everything at once or pretend to have all the answers. Through daily reflections and exercises of honest self-evaluation, I gradually saw more clearly the layers of past judgments that distorted my view. This process encouraged compassion toward myself and others, which felt like lifting a heavy fog. Healing became not just a goal but an ongoing, gentle practice of openness and surrender. In essence, embracing the uncertainty of not seeing the present objectively is a powerful step toward recovery. It invites us to release control and invite new perspectives that foster growth and deeper connection to reality as it truly unfolds.
