I guess it’s too late to apologize

2025/2/4 Edited to

... Read moreLately, I’ve found myself wrestling with a question that feels incredibly personal yet universal: 'Am I wrong to feel this way?' It’s about trust, or rather, the constant push and pull between wanting to wholeheartedly believe in people and the nagging voice that whispers, 'don't trust on people.' We hear stories, we have experiences, and sometimes it feels safer to just keep our guard up. But then, what kind of life is that? It's easy to say 'trust nobody,' especially after experiencing disappointment or betrayal. I’ve certainly had moments where my heart felt bruised, making me question every interaction. That feeling of vulnerability, of putting your true self out there only to be met with misunderstanding or worse, can be really tough. It makes you wonder if it's even worth it. But deep down, I know we all crave connection, and true connection requires a leap of faith, an embrace of vulnerability. For a long time, I mistook vulnerability for weakness. The idea of truly opening up, sharing my unfiltered thoughts and fears, felt terrifying. But I've been learning that embracing vulnerability is actually a profound strength. It’s not about being naive or letting people walk all over you. It's about being authentic, allowing others to see your true self, flaws and all. It’s a conscious choice to connect on a deeper level, understanding that with that choice comes a certain level of risk. This is where it gets tricky, right? Because while I genuinely 'love my people' and want to believe the best in them, there’s also the need for self-protection. How do you navigate that delicate balance? I’ve realized it’s not about an all-or-nothing approach. It’s about discernment. It’s about trying to 'feel the perspective of everyone' – understanding that people are complex, they have their own histories, their own struggles, and sometimes their actions aren't intentionally malicious but born from their own pain or limited understanding. When someone lets me down, my first instinct is often to retreat and build higher walls. But lately, I've been trying a different approach. Instead of immediately judging, I try to step back and ask myself, 'What might be going on in their world?' This doesn't excuse harmful behavior, but it helps me understand it, and often, it prevents me from taking things quite so personally. It allows me to maintain a sense of empathy without necessarily granting full, unconditional trust to someone who hasn't earned it. It's a way of honoring my own feelings while still recognizing the humanity in others. So, where does that leave us with 'don't trust on people'? For me, it's evolved from a hard rule to a nuanced approach. I'm learning to trust gradually, observing actions more than just words. I'm setting boundaries, which is crucial for protecting my energy and well-being. And I'm embracing the idea that vulnerability is a journey, not a destination. Some days it feels easier to open up, other days I pull back. The key is to be kind to yourself through the process and remember that building trust, both with others and within yourself, takes time and conscious effort. Ultimately, this ongoing reflection on trust and vulnerability is about finding peace in my connections. It’s about understanding that while not everyone will earn your deepest trust, every interaction is an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to refine your own perspective on what it means to truly connect with others. It's a messy, beautiful part of being human.

The Dream; is it too late to go to school
I was born in Florida. I was raised in Kentucky. But I guess my love for the ocean and the coast never left me. For years I told everyone I wanted to be a marine biologist or do literally anything in conservation but it never seemed possible because of where I was raised. A year ago I decided I

Things Parents Realize Too Late in Therapy
Many parents walk into therapy thinking the problem is their child… only to realize the real work often starts with them. They learn that children don’t just listen to what we say — they absorb how we react, how we handle stress, how we love, and how we apologize. They realize that connection
