Easy weeknight jambalaya
For this easy jambalaya, I started with Zatarain’s Jambalaya Rice Mix and made it my own by adding browned ground beef, smoked sausage, and shrimp. I added seasoning salt and pepper to the ground beef and sausage (after draining), and a little Old Bay on the shrimp gave it an extra layer of flavor without making the recipe complicated. It’s hearty, filling, comes together in one pan, and makes enough for leftovers.
Perfect for busy weeknights when you want something comforting without spending hours in the kitchen.

I’ve found that using Zatarain’s Jambalaya Rice Mix is a real time-saver when making this southern classic on busy weeknights. The blend already contains vegetables and spices, which means you can focus more on adding your favorite proteins without worrying about balancing the flavors from scratch. Personally, adding a mix of shrimp, smoked sausage, and ground beef creates a rich and satisfying jambalaya that hits all the right notes. To amplify the taste, I like to season the browned ground beef and smoked sausage lightly with seasoning salt and pepper after draining off any excess fat. This step keeps the dish flavorful but not greasy. The Old Bay seasoning sprinkled over the shrimp adds a nice subtle kick and ties the seafood elements together beautifully. Cooking everything in one pan not only simplifies clean-up but also helps the flavors meld perfectly. One of the best parts about this jambalaya is how versatile it is. If you prefer chicken or want to add a bit of heat, you can swap or combine proteins easily. It’s a great recipe for meal prep because it reheats well and the flavors deepen overnight. For those who enjoy a smokier flavor, choosing smoked sausage is a game-changer. When I’m making this meal, I also like to pair it with a simple side salad or steamed vegetables to balance the richness. If you enjoy spice, adding a dash of cayenne or hot sauce is a welcome addition. Using the Zatarain’s rice mix ensures you have the right long grain rice and seasoning base, making this jambalaya a consistently tasty and convenient weeknight dinner option.
