Honest Review of “Yours Truly”

When I said the build-up took too long in Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez, I really meant it. There were so many moments where I felt like the same conversation was happening over and over, or that a misunderstanding could have been cleared up much quicker. For a romance novel, I usually love a good slow burn, but this felt less like a burn and more like a simmer that never quite reached a boil until the very end. It made some chapters feel like a drag, and I found myself skimming a bit, which is something I rarely do with books I'm truly enjoying. And then, when things finally did 'happen,' it was almost... understated? After all that anticipation, I was hoping for a bigger emotional payoff or a more dramatic turn of events. It felt like the big moments were rushed through, leaving me feeling a little unsatisfied, like I'd just run a marathon only to find the finish line was a small ribbon you could step over without noticing. It left me wondering if the pacing issues earlier on impacted how the climax was received. My expectations were definitely high after falling completely in love with Into Your World, Abby Jimenez's previous work. That book had such a vibrant energy, compelling characters, and a story that truly swept me away. With Yours Truly, while I appreciated the connection and some of the heartfelt themes Abby Jimenez is known for, the magic just wasn't as potent for me. It lacked the same spark, the same witty banter, and the emotional depth that made Into Your World a five-star read in my book. I kept waiting for that feeling to kick in, but it just never fully blossomed in the same way. The characters were likable, but their journey felt a bit more predictable and less emotionally resonant to me personally. Despite my 3.5-star rating, I still think Yours Truly has its merits. If you're a fan of medical romances or enjoy a story with themes of healing and second chances, you might find more to love here than I did. It certainly has Abby Jimenez's signature warmth and kindness, and the plot does tackle some important emotional conflicts. For me, it just didn't hit the mark on pacing and emotional impact as strongly as her other works. It’s a good book, just not a great one for my personal taste.
