If you enjoy political scheming, deadly gladiator trials, and a slow burn romance this is the story for you. I felt the author did an amazing job at the world building and thrust you into a world full of rebellion, secrets and deceit. Although I truly enjoy a strong female lead character I felt that through out the story she went a bit soft around the edges. For me there wasn’t enough backstory between the two main characters given that they have a deep seated history together that is hinted at multiple times but we never really get into the bones of it. The book didn’t pick up for me until a little over half way through but when it did pick up I was pulled in until the end. The slow burn second chance was definitely hitting all the marks, it was a slooowwww burn! I did feel the ending was a bit predictable. Overall, I did enjoy the writing style and I am excited to see where this series goes from here.
