While patriarchy is commonly critiqued for its impact on women, it's important to recognize that men also suffer under this system. From societal expectations to restricted emotional expression, men are pressured to conform to rigid masculine norms that can hinder their mental health. Personally, I have witnessed how these pressures affect men close to me. For instance, some of my male friends struggle with expressing vulnerability or seeking help for mental health issues because they were taught to 'be strong' and not show weakness. This stigma contributes to higher rates of untreated depression and anxiety among men. Recognizing that patriarchy imposes harmful roles on everyone helps foster empathy and encourage healthier conversations between genders. It's not about placing blame on women for men's difficulties, but about understanding the systemic forces at play. Supporting men in breaking free from these stereotypes can improve overall well-being for all. By opening up discussions on how patriarchy influences men's mental health and social roles, we can challenge harmful norms and create space for more inclusive healing. This approach benefits not only men but society as a whole.
