💜 Advocacy Day At Idaho State Capitol 2025 💜

Tuesday, January 14, 2015 I had the immense pleasure and honor of advocating at the State Capitol for the Alzheimer's Association. This is my 4th year doing this and I hope to continue for many years to come. If you are interested in joining my team for the Walk To EndAlz in Sept or want to donate please reach out and let me know. My personal goal is to raise $2,500 and our team goal this year is $10,000. 💜💜💜

... Read moreIt's truly inspiring to reflect on the power of direct advocacy, like my recent experience at the Idaho State Capitol championing the cause of the Alzheimer's Association. While being there in person to share personal stories and connect with lawmakers makes an undeniable impact, I've also come to realize how incredibly crucial social media has become for non-profit organizations today, massively amplifying our voices and connecting communities far beyond the capitol walls. Think about how organizations like the Alzheimer's Association can strategically leverage platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and even LinkedIn to extend the reach of advocacy days. A single, heartfelt post from someone at the Capitol, sharing their personal story and explaining the importance of specific legislation, can resonate with thousands of people who might never step foot inside a government building. It's not just about one specific day of action; it's about fostering sustained engagement and building a continuous dialogue. These platforms effectively transform into vital "social media resources" for sharing ongoing updates, celebrating small but significant victories, and most importantly, recruiting new advocates to join the fight. For major fundraising initiatives and community events like the Walk To End Alzheimer's, social media is an absolute game-changer. I've personally seen how friends and family members sharing their personal fundraising goals and team pages can inspire countless others to donate, volunteer, or even form their own teams. It transforms what might be viewed as a local event into a widespread, impactful movement. Non-profits skillfully demonstrate "exceptional social media adoption" by crafting engaging content – whether it's powerful survivor stories, compelling research updates, practical caregiving tips, or simple, direct calls to action to sign a petition. This digital engagement builds crucial momentum long before and continues long after the physical event takes place. What I find particularly inspiring is how individuals, not just the large organizations themselves, contribute significantly to this effort. When I share my advocacy journey or provide updates on my progress towards our $2,500 personal and $10,000 team fundraising goals, I'm essentially utilizing social media as a powerful tool for the Alzheimer's Association. It’s a fantastic way for us, the everyday advocates, to become integral parts of a larger digital narrative. We can tag our local representatives, share informative articles, and foster meaningful discussions, effectively creating a grassroots groundswell of support online that perfectly complements face-to-face efforts. This blended approach maximizes our collective impact. Moreover, this robust digital presence serves as an invaluable resource for anyone seeking information, support, or community related to Alzheimer's disease. The Association’s various social media channels can offer daily tips, provide links to local support groups, and deliver timely updates on new research breakthroughs, ensuring that crucial information and assistance reach a much wider audience. So, while my day at the Capitol represented a direct, personal conversation with lawmakers, the ongoing, dynamic conversations on social media ensure that our vital message about ending Alzheimer's disease continues to reach every corner, from local communities to state-level decision-makers and beyond. It’s an evolving landscape where traditional advocacy and modern digital outreach perfectly intertwine to serve our common, urgent cause.
