Holy Week tips and reading plans ✨

2025/4/12 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! As Holy Week approaches, I always find myself wanting to truly immerse myself in this incredibly sacred time. This year, I’ve been diving deep into understanding each day, and I wanted to share my personal journey and insights to help you make your own Holy Week truly meaningful. It's more than just a week; it's a profound walk with Christ leading up to the joy of Easter, celebrating that empty tomb and the incredible truth that He is Risen! Let's break down the 7 days of Holy Week, along with what each day signifies and how we can observe them. Palm Sunday: We kick off Holy Week commemorating Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. It’s a day of celebration, remembering the crowds waving palm branches. For me, it's about recognizing Jesus as King, even as I know what’s to come. A great way to observe is to read the Gospel accounts of this day and maybe even create a small palm craft with kids. Holy Monday & Holy Tuesday: These days are often quieter, focusing on Jesus' teachings and confrontations in the temple. I like to use this time for reflection and prayer, preparing my heart. It's a perfect opportunity to use a Holy Week Scripture Reading Plan, focusing on passages about Jesus' authority and parables. Spy Wednesday (or Silent Wednesday): This day traditionally marks Judas Iscariot's plot to betray Jesus. It’s a somber pause, a moment of silence before the intensity of the Paschal Triduum. I often use this day for introspection, considering my own faithfulness and areas where I might fall short. Maundy Thursday: This is where things become deeply profound. We remember the Last Supper, the institution of the Eucharist, and Jesus washing His disciples' feet. For me, it’s a powerful reminder of humility and service. Participating in a washing of the feet ceremony or attending a Mass of the Lord's Supper can be incredibly moving. Good Friday: The most solemn day. We reflect on Jesus' crucifixion and death, looking at those three wooden crosses. It's a day of deep sorrow, but also immense gratitude for His sacrifice. Many observe fasting and attend services that recount the Passion. I find spending time in quiet prayer, perhaps meditating on the Stations of the Cross, to be very impactful. Holy Saturday: The day of waiting and silence. Jesus is in the tomb. It’s a day of anticipation, a stark reminder of the gravity of death before the hope of resurrection. I often use this day to prepare for Easter, physically and spiritually, reflecting on the promise of new life. Easter Sunday: He is Risen! This is the glorious culmination, the celebration of Jesus' resurrection and victory over sin and death. All the sorrow of the previous days transforms into immense joy. My family and I always celebrate with a special breakfast, attend a joyous service, and remember the transformative power of the empty tomb. I’ve also found that having a structured Holy Week Bible Reading Plan makes a huge difference. Following a daily guide, like the one I've put together from Palm Sunday onwards, truly helps connect the dots and deepens my understanding of the events. Whether you follow an infographic guide or a simple daily reflection, I hope this helps you experience the full richness of this sacred week!
