... Read moreHave you ever felt the need to just pause, breathe, and reconnect with something deeper amidst your busy day? I know I have! That's why I've found such immense comfort and clarity in what I like to call a 'Coffee Break with God.' It’s not just about the coffee (though a warm cup certainly helps set the mood!), but about intentionally carving out a moment to seek divine guidance and peace. And for me, Psalm 143:10-11 has become a cornerstone of these precious times.
This Psalm truly speaks to the heart's yearning for direction and protection. Verse 10, 'Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground,' is such a profound prayer. In a world full of choices and distractions, often I feel overwhelmed trying to figure out the 'right' path. This verse reminds me that I don't have to navigate it alone. I can humbly ask God to be my teacher, to show me His will. This isn't about magical answers appearing instantly, but about an ongoing relationship where I open my heart and mind to His leading. His 'good Spirit' is promised to guide us, to lead us on 'level ground' – a beautiful image of stability and peace, away from treacherous paths. For me, this means seeking wisdom through scripture, quiet reflection, and prayer, trusting that His Spirit will illuminate the way.
Then we have Verse 11: 'For your name’s sake, Lord, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.' This verse is a powerful plea for preservation and deliverance. It’s a reminder that our security doesn’t just come from our own efforts, but from God's character and His unfailing righteousness. When I face challenges or feel overwhelmed, I find myself returning to this prayer. It’s a humbling confession that I need His help, and a confident declaration that He is capable and willing to save. Asking for preservation 'for your name's sake' implies that His reputation, His glory, is tied to His care for us. This gives me such incredible hope and strength during difficult times. It’s not just about being rescued from external troubles, but also about being preserved in faith and spirit.
So, how do you have your own 'Coffee Break with God' centered around these verses? It’s simpler than you might think. Start by finding a quiet spot, perhaps with a cup of your favorite dark beverage, just like the image suggests, maybe even with some speckled decorative eggs nearby if it's the season, or simply a fresh daisy to bring some beauty to your space. Open your Bible to Psalm 143. Read verses 10 and 11 slowly, perhaps several times. Don’t rush. Let the words sink in.
Next, reflect. What does 'teach me to do your will' mean for you right now? Are there decisions you’re grappling with? Are you seeking clarity in a particular area of your life? Then consider 'preserve my life' and 'bring me out of trouble.' What troubles are you facing? What kind of preservation do you need? This is a wonderful time for prayer – a genuine, heartfelt conversation with God. You can also journal your thoughts, writing down what comes to mind as you meditate on the Psalm. This practice, even for just 10-15 minutes, can completely shift your perspective and infuse your day with a sense of purpose and calm. It’s amazing how much guidance and strength can be found in these quiet moments of seeking God's will and trusting in His preservation.
