Because of His mercy ✨

Lately, I've been meditating deeply on the profound truth found in Titus 3:5: 'HE SAVED US, NOT BECAUSE OF THE RIGHTEOUS THINGS WE HAVE DONE, BUT BECAUSE OF HIS MERCY.' This verse, which I even had as 'THE WORD FOR THE DAY' on my screen, is such a powerful reminder that our salvation is purely a gift, completely undeserved. It strips away any notion that we can earn God's favor through our own efforts. For me, understanding this verse really clarifies the difference between grace and mercy in the Bible. I used to get them mixed up, but now I see it so clearly. Mercy is God not giving us the punishment we deserve for our sins. We utterly deserve it, but in His great love, He withholds it. Grace, on the other hand, is God giving us something we absolutely don't deserve – eternal life, forgiveness, and His unfailing love. So, when Titus 3:5 says 'because of His mercy,' it’s a beautiful declaration that He chose not to condemn us, but instead offered us the incredible gift of salvation through grace. This truth is beautifully echoed in another one of my favorite passages, Ephesians 2:4-5: 'But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.' Isn't that amazing? It tells us that God is literally 'rich in mercy,' meaning His compassion and forgiveness are abundant and limitless. This isn't just a small part of His character; it's central to who He is. Both Titus 3:5 and Ephesians 2:4-5 really drive home the point that our spiritual new life isn't a reward for good behavior, but a direct result of His loving heart and incredible mercy. When I think about God mercy quotes or verses, these two always come to mind. They're not just words on a page; they're a lifeline. They remind me to approach every day with gratitude, knowing that I am saved by His mercy, and not by my own 'righteous things done.' This understanding also inspires me to extend mercy to others, recognizing that just as I've received undeserved kindness, I should offer it too. While the Bible talks about corporal works of mercy, which are acts of compassion like feeding the hungry or visiting the sick, I believe they stem from this foundational understanding of God’s mercy towards us. It's an overflow of what we’ve received, a practical way to live out the love that saved us. Truly, every day is a testament to His boundless mercy and grace.
