#MyPetDiary #lemon8challenge @Lemon8 Pets#lemon8pets#petsoflemon8#cutestpuppyever#pug So this morning I went to go check up on the puppies and Star was playing with them all and they were all down by my feet except this little guy. He’s the smallest I believe and he typically plays and barks and runs around but today he might’ve just been out of it because he stayed on his little pillow while everyone else played.

Like my little guy this morning, who was usually 'running around' and full of energy but decided to be a bit of a 'loner puppy' instead. He just stayed on his little pillow while everyone else played, and it really made me wonder, 'Is he just tired, or is something else going on?'
I’ve learned that sometimes a quiet day is exactly what a growing pup needs. Puppies need a huge amount of sleep – often up to 18-20 hours a day – so it’s not always a cause for alarm if they’re taking a break from playing. They can get overstimulated or simply burn a lot of energy in short bursts, leading to needing more rest. Think of all the exploring, learning, and growing their little bodies and brains are doing! Just like human babies, their development is exhausting. Sometimes, a quiet spot in their 'room' or playpen is their way of saying, 'I need a break!'
However, as pet parents, we naturally worry. So, how do you tell if your quiet pup is just resting or if it's a sign of something more serious? I always keep an eye out for other symptoms. Is he still eating and drinking normally? Is his bathroom schedule consistent and looking healthy? Is he responsive when I try to engage him gently, even if he prefers to just watch from his cozy spot? A truly 'tired' puppy might be a bit slow to respond but will still show some interest.
If a puppy is truly lethargic – meaning they’re not just sleepy but seem weak, unresponsive, or completely uninterested in food, water, or even their favorite toys – that’s when it’s definitely time to call the vet. Other red flags include persistent vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, limping, or any unusual swelling. Trust your gut; if something feels really off, it’s always best to get professional advice.
One time, my other pup had a really quiet day, and I was so worried. But then I realized we had just had a huge playdate at the park the day before with lots of new smells and dog friends! He was simply recuperating from all the physical and mental stimulation. Providing a comfortable, quiet space for them to retreat to can make a big difference. Cozy beds, a soft blanket, and a peaceful corner away from household hustle can be their perfect sanctuary when they're feeling a bit off or just need some alone time. Making sure they have access to fresh water nearby is also key, even if they’re resting.
It’s all about knowing your individual pet’s personality and normal energy levels. My 'loner puppy' today eventually woke up for some zoomies later in the afternoon, much to my relief! But it was a good reminder to always observe and be in tune with their subtle cues. Every puppy is different, and understanding their unique rhythms helps us be better pet parents. What are your experiences with your pets having quiet days? I'd love to hear how you differentiate between normal rest and a potential concern, and any tips you have for encouraging healthy rest in active pups! #PuppyBehavior #PetHealth #PugLife #NewPuppy
I hope he feels okay! ❤️
