The murder of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes
Arthur suffered months of horrific abuse in 2020:
• He was regularly poisoned with salt, causing extreme suffering
• He was deprived of food and forced to stand for long periods
• He was physically assaulted and emotionally abused
• CCTV footage later showed him weak, crying, and unable to stand
On 16 June 2020, Tustin fatally assaulted Arthur by violently shaking him, causing a catastrophic brain injury. He died the next day.
During the trial at Coventry Crown Court, disturbing audio recordings were played:
• Arthur could be heard crying and saying “No one loves me”
• Hughes was heard encouraging harsh punishments
• Videos showed Arthur barely able to stand
These recordings deeply impacted the public and highlighted the severity of the abuse.
Emma Tustin received a life sentence with a minimum of 29 years
Thomas Hughes received 21 years in prison
The judge described the case as one of “almost unimaginable cruelty.”
