🧜🏼‍♀️Must read Mermaid Horror🌊

Sooo I guess I’m not the only one who loves mermaid horror 🤣 I wanted to share my new to-be-read list of some crazy books I found. I can’t read fast enough, but I couldn’t not share these in case any of you lovely people want to dive into a new book ;)

( this first one I am very interested in and have had it on my list for a while, they all sound good though. I just ordered these from thrift books, so soon I will post again when I have them in hand lol. )

Are any of these going on your tbr list??

🌊1. The Deep by Rivers Solomon

(This is taken from the back description because it describes it best imo)

“Yetu holds the memories for her people—water-dwelling descendants of pregnant African slave women thrown overboard by slave owners—who live idyllic lives in the deep. Their past, too traumatic to be remembered regularly is forgotten by everyone, save one—the historian. This demanding role has been bestowed on Yetu.

Yetu remembers for everyone, and the memories, painful and wonderful, traumatic and terrible and miraculous, are destroying her. And so, she flees to the surface escaping the memories, the expectations, and the responsibilities—and discovers a world her people left behind long ago.

Yetu will learn more than she ever expected about her own past—and about the future of her people. If they are all to survive, they’ll need to reclaim the memories, reclaim their identity—and own who they really are.”

🌊2. Into The Drowning Deep by Mira Grant -

when a crew doing a mocumentary on mermaids in a deep ocean trench has their mission go wrong, and missing, we follow a new team who are now not so sure the fables merfolk are just from legend. Following a girl who also lost her sister to the previous trip, the new crew is about to find out what really lives in the deep trench.

🌊3. The drowning girl- a fictional memoir of a girl who comes into contact with a mermaid hitchhiker. She is an unreliable narrator though who struggles with trusting her own memories and mental illness.

🌊4. Swim by Faryl - this book was kinda hard to find, as of now I can only find it on amazon so I’m waiting to get it because I’d prefer to support a local book shop. Regardless this book sounds so interesting

(this is also clipped from the description)

“You could’ve been a star.”

Dr. Alton Silas, the owner of a failing public aquarium, accidentally stumbles upon the greatest zoological discovery of the new century.

“You could’ve been something special.”

Pisciviri sila, the Silas merman, a primal, humanoid, deep-sea creature with a disturbing secret.

“You were something special.”

Against all odds, Silas’s new exhibit fails. The merman refuses to appear before the public, except to scare and try to attack those who linger too long.

But as young marine biologist Dr. Sean Morgan is about to find out, this is the least of the aquarium staff’s worries…

🌊🌊🌊

I have a few recommendations for non horror mermaid books too if this genre is not your cup of tea. I’ll most likely make another post soon about those

... Read moreIf you're intrigued by the world of mermaid horror literature, there are many captivating titles to consider. For instance, 'The Deep' by Rivers Solomon offers a poignant exploration of a water-dwelling society that grapples with their traumatic history. It's a profound journey through identity and survival that resonates deeply with readers. Another gripping read is 'Into The Drowning Deep' by Mira Grant, which blurs the lines between fiction and reality as a documentary crew uncovers the terrifying truths lurking in the depths of the ocean. This thrilling narrative highlights both the mystery and dangers of the sea's depths, perfect for fans of suspenseful horror. Additionally, 'The Drowning Girl' by Caitlín R. Kiernan presents an unreliable narrator's chilling encounter with a mermaid, intricately weaving themes of mental illness and memory, leaving readers questioning what’s real. Furthermore, 'Swim' by Faryl introduces a failing aquarium and its remarkable but frightening discovery—a merman that leads to more problems than solutions. All these titles represent the unique blend of horror and mermaid lore and are sure to captivate any reader seeking chilling tales from the deep.
