how to make the photos app less overwhelming! ✨📲

hi friends!

ever since the new ios update, i’ve been so distraught over what they did to the photos app. i won’t lie, all the new things they added felt very unnecessary to me and made the app way more overwhelming than it needed to me. i think i lasted maybe a WEEK before reverting my camera roll back to how it used to be.

what are your thoughts on the updates to the photos app?

... Read moreHey everyone! I totally get it if you're feeling overwhelmed by the Photos app after the latest iOS update. I know I was! It felt like my perfectly organized camera roll suddenly had a million new sections, making it hard to find anything. For a while, I just avoided opening it, but then I realized there had to be a way to take back control. And guess what? There is! One of the biggest frustrations for me was how some views, like the 'Days View' or the extensive 'Media Types' screen, seemed to take over. While 'Days View' is a core way the Photos app organizes pictures, making it easy to jump to a specific date, sometimes I just want to see everything in one continuous scroll without extra groupings. It can feel a bit much when you're trying to quickly browse or find a specific photo without remembering the exact day it was taken. But don't worry, even if you can't completely disable 'Days View,' you can definitely make other parts of your app experience cleaner. The real game-changer for me was discovering the 'Customize & Reorder' feature. This is where you can truly tailor the app to your liking. I remember seeing a screenshot of this option, and it clicked – I could finally get rid of all the 'collections' I never used! To find it, open your Photos app, scroll down a bit in the 'Albums' tab, and look for 'Customize & Reorder'. Tap on that, and you'll see a list of all your album categories and media types. This is where the magic happens, especially for the 'Media Types' screen. Do you really need to see separate albums for 'Selfies,' 'Live Photos,' 'Panoramas,' or 'Bursts' if you hardly ever use them or prefer to see all your photos together? For me, the answer was a resounding no! I went through that list and simply deselected the checkboxes next to any media type or collection that felt redundant or cluttered. It was such a relief! Suddenly, my 'Albums' tab looked so much cleaner and more personal. I kept the ones I actually use, like 'Videos' and 'Screenshots,' but everything else got tucked away. It really helped to streamline my workflow and made the app feel less busy. Beyond just customizing what you see, here are a few other tips I picked up to keep the Photos app manageable: Utilize Favorites: Instead of saving every single good photo, really lean into the 'Favorite' heart icon. It creates a quick album of your absolute best shots, making them super easy to find. Smart Albums (if you use a Mac): If you sync with a Mac, Smart Albums are a lifesaver. You can set rules (e.g., "photos taken in 2023 with a specific keyword") and they automatically update. Delete Ruthlessly: We all take multiple shots of the same thing. Be brave and delete the blurry ones, the duplicates, and the ones you know you’ll never look at again. It’s surprisingly liberating! Review 'For You' and 'Memories': Sometimes these sections can highlight photos you forgot about, but other times they can feel like clutter. You can always dismiss memories you don't want to see. By taking a few minutes to 'Customize & Reorder' and applying these simple habits, my Photos app went from being a source of frustration to a genuinely helpful tool again. It’s amazing what a difference a little personalization can make. Give it a try – you might be surprised how much better your photo browsing experience becomes!
