Spending that Vampire Money 🩸

I actually tried to read Cell when I first discovered King in school, but I was so freaked out by zombies that I returned it before I even got to the scary part. 💀💀💀 Here’s to round two! Song of the day: You Ain’t Going Nowhere, Bob Dylan. 🩸♥️🩸 #spookybooks #horror #alternative #ootdinspiration #bookhaul

2024/12/18 Edited to

... Read moreSo, I mentioned I'm diving back into Stephen King's 'Cell,' and honestly, I'm a mix of excited and a little nervous! When I first tried to read it in school, the whole zombie premise just freaked me out too much. But now, years later, I feel like I'm ready to face the 'Pulse.' For those who haven't read it, 'Cell' imagines a world where a mysterious signal transmitted through cell phones turns everyone into mindless, violent creatures. It's a classic King setup, exploring human nature under extreme duress, and I'm really curious to see how it holds up for me now. The cover art itself, with the broken phone screen and those eerie red umbrellas and birds, always stuck with me – it perfectly captures the unsettling premise of technology turning against us. Beyond 'Cell,' this 'spooky book haul' also includes some other fantastic horror picks I'm excited about. First up is 'Carmilla' by Sheridan Le Fanu, which the cover proudly proclaims as 'The Cult Classic that inspired Dracula.' As a huge fan of gothic horror and vampire lore, I feel like I've been meaning to read this for ages. It's supposed to be a really atmospheric and psychological take on vampires, predating Stoker's famous novel, which makes it even more intriguing. I can't wait to see the original inspiration for so much of what we know about vampires today, especially with that striking red and black cover design. And speaking of Stoker, I also picked up 'The Burial of the Rats & Other Tales of the Macabre.' The British Library editions are always so beautifully put together, and this one, with its intricate silver line art depicting rats and a skull on the red cover, is no exception. Bram Stoker isn't just about Dracula, and I'm looking forward to exploring some of his lesser-known, darker short stories. I love finding these hidden gems from classic authors that can still send shivers down your spine. If you're like me and sometimes get a bit too scared by horror, I find pacing yourself helps! Sometimes reading a chapter or two and then switching to something lighter can make these intense reads more enjoyable without overwhelming you. For anyone else planning their own spooky season reads or just looking for a good scary book, I highly recommend checking out these titles. Whether you're into psychological thrillers, classic vampires, or good old-fashioned zombie apocalypse, there's something here for every horror fan. It's always a treat to find books that truly get under your skin, and I have a good feeling about this haul. What are your go-to scary books, or any you're revisiting?
