Day 1 of my Korean learning journey! 🇰🇷

After a one-month break from studying, I’m officially back at it! I’ll be documenting my progress here daily to keep myself accountable.

Today, I started by reviewing my Anki flashcards. To be honest, it was a little tough to get back into it, especially with some of the vocab I learned right before my break flying right out of my head. But it’s all part of the process😭. And this is also why I am setting a goal to be consistent, which will help me with retention.

Next, I refreshed myself on the last TEUIDA lesson I did before my break. TEUIDA is an app and is amazing for practicing speaking from the very beginning, which is exactly what I need right now. My ultimate goal is to become conversational in Korean. I want to get comfortable holding conversations, so I’m making speaking a priority in my daily study routine.

Learning a language isn’t always linear. Some days feel like progress, and other days can feel a little frustrating. But I’m determined to stick with it!

... Read moreIt's totally normal to feel a bit rusty after a break from studying, and trust me, I've been there! Getting back into the swing of things, especially with a language like Korean, can feel daunting. That's why I wanted to share a deeper dive into how I’m really leveraging Anki and TEUIDA, not just for Day 1, but for long-term progress. These tools are game-changers if you use them right! Let's talk Anki first, because vocabulary retention is half the battle. When you open up the Anki flashcard app interface, it might look a bit simple, but its power lies in its spaced repetition algorithm. For my Korean learning, I don't just dump random words in. I focus on creating or finding high-quality Anki Korean vocabulary decks that include not just single words, but also Korean: phrases, sentences, and situations. This context is crucial for understanding how words are actually used. During my Anki flashcards study session, I always make sure to read the example sentences aloud. This subtle change helps bridge the gap between passive recognition and active recall, and trust me, it makes a huge difference in your Anki review session. If you're struggling with recalling certain vocab, don't be afraid to hit 'Again' more often. It feels like you're failing, but you're actually reinforcing weaker memories! Customizing the settings for your Anki review interface can also make your sessions more efficient – don't be afraid to tweak the interval settings slightly to match your learning pace, especially if you're using Ankidroid flashcards interface on the go. Now, onto speaking – the part many of us dread, but it's essential for conversational fluency! The TEUIDA app has been an absolute lifesaver for me in this regard. Unlike just listening or repeating, the Teuida Korean speaking app really pushes you to interact. The way the TEUIDA app displaying Korean phrases and their English translations works is brilliant because it gives you immediate feedback. I treat each lesson as a mini-conversation, trying my best to mimic the pronunciation and intonation. This dedicated Teuida Korean speaking practice is what’s helping me get comfortable forming sentences on the fly. My biggest tip for using the Teuida Korean learning app is to not just go through the motions. Really try to internalize the phrases, imagine yourself in the situation, and speak with confidence. Even if you mess up, it's a safe space to practice! Integrating these two tools into your daily routine is key. I typically start with Anki in the morning to get my brain warmed up with vocab, then move to TEUIDA later in the day when I can focus on active speaking without distractions. Remember, learning a language isn’t a race; it’s a marathon. Some days will feel like you're flying, and others, you might feel like you're barely crawling. But consistency, even small steps every day, adds up to incredible progress. Don't let those moments of frustration win – keep showing up for yourself and your Korean journey!
