Today I want to talk about three interesting issues.

🟠 in the period 1955 - 1957.
The winner of the contest was a Danish architect.
His type at first was just a line sketch that looked like a "shell" or "sail."
In the original draft, the shells have a free-form rounded appearance (Free-form).
In an age without computers, building a concrete roof to balance and not break down was "impossible" in engineering at the time.
This is the hardest part...
Architects and engineers have spent years solving problems.
Until the invention of "Spherical Solution."
Or making every shell curved from the radius of the same circle is like slicing an orange peel.
This method allows the factory finished parts to be cast together.

🟠 on the part of the "roof surface material" that is ceramic glossy.
In architecture, it is often called the "Sydney Tile" because it is produced specifically for this project.
The designer wanted this work to be a large white sculpture located in the middle of Sydney Harbour.
Which can change the ridge color with the time of day.
It is a "shiny but not reflective" material (Glossy but not mirror-like).
It took Sweden tiles, which were specially developed for three years, to achieve a tactile finish that mimics the Japanese ceramic bowl.
• The result is a tile surface with fine stone grains mixed in, gently refracting the incident light, making the building look vibrant.
Change from off-white in the daytime.
Is pink or orange during sunset.
• The glaze is designed so that the stains do not stick easily, and when it rains, rainwater will naturally wash away dust and dirt.
• A blend of two shades (The Chevron Pattern)

But if you look closely, two types of tiles are used in Chevron patterns:
1.Glossy White to reflect sunlight
2. Matte Cream color to reduce the brightness and increase the dimension.
This switching of tones allows the building to not look flat and have architectural depth.

🟠 The Sydney Opera House's cooling system is considered a very innovative piece of engineering in the 1960s.
Using a concept that we now call "Sea Water Cooling System," it uses natural energy to cool.
Instead a large cooling fan is set up on the roof like a typical building, which destroys the aesthetic of the architecture.
Engineers chose "Sydney Harbour Water" as a heat receiver.
• The system will pump sea water from Sydney Harbour up through a recirculation pipe.
• This sea water runs through a heat exchanger to extract heat from the indoor air conditioning system.
• Once the water is heated, it will be released back into the bay where it did not mix with the cooling water system in the room.
✔️ pipes used must be made of materials that are particularly resistant to saltwater corrosion.
✔️ need a very fine filter system to prevent small marine animals or barnacles from entering the island and clogging the pipe.
✔️ have to work precisely 24 hours a day.
Because inside the Opera House, many wooden instruments are used, such as pianos, strings, which are sensitive to humidity and temperature.
Despite the release of warmer water back into the bay, the system is designed to keep the temperature from rising so high that it affects the aquatic ecosystem around the building.

Even UNESCO declared the Opera house a World Heritage Site in 2007, describing it as a "masterpiece of human creativity."
