Studies have shown that simply petting a dog can lower your heart rate, reduce stress hormones like cortisol, and boost feel-good chemicals like oxytocin and serotonin. While it's not about 'curing' depression, they certainly act as a powerful antidote to negative feelings, encouraging me to get up, go for invigorating walks, and maintain a healthy routine. This consistent interaction and the bond we share are key to how they provide comfort and help manage stress, even when I'm feeling my lowest. My 'pamper day' routine is special for both of us. It involves plenty of cuddles, a good walk to explore the neighborhood, and making sure they're happy and healthy from nose to tail. I always make sure they stay well-hydrated throughout the day, especially after our adventures or during warmer weather – a fresh bowl of water is always available. Sometimes, as a special treat in the evening, I'll even give them a little splash of goat milk mixed with their water; they absolutely love this small indulgence! It's part of how I care for my little furry therapist, ensuring they feel loved and pampered in return. As the day winds down, snuggling up with them at night is the perfect way to end any day, ensuring we both get a restful sleep, ready for another day of joy and comfort. While formal puppy therapy sessions and trained therapy dogs exist and can be wonderfully beneficial, I’ve found that having a dog at home offers continuous, personalized therapy that's always available.
