New iOS 18 Features Good For Digital Journaling!🩷

Everyone is raving about the new iPad OS/iOS 18 update being able to customize your icons more and such (some are raving about the lack of new exciting features) but I was most interested in trying out the new Apple Notes features, which again aren’t all that exciting but there are some features good to finally have! Especially for those of us that do any kind of note taking, digital journaling, digital planning etc…

Not everyone wants to use apps like Goodnotes or can afford to. Some just want something simple and free that they can still be able to make look nice, so that’s where Apple notes (and a FEW other options) come in. Hopefully there will be future updates that include more note taking/digital journaling features.

I have yet to try out the new customization features for the icons, I’m still rocking with my previous Home Screen for now.🩷

I have a few videos over on YouTube if you want to see how to use these features and other ways to enhance your apple notes that can be used if you aren’t able to get the update on your device.

Overall, which features in the iOS 18 update are you most or least interested in? How can they improve Apple notes and customization in general?

... Read moreLike many of you, I'm always on the lookout for ways to make my digital journaling and note-taking more efficient and enjoyable. The new iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 updates for Apple Notes have genuinely surprised me with how much they've elevated the experience, especially for those of us who prefer a built-in, free solution over expensive third-party apps. One of the features I'm absolutely loving is the new Audio Transcripts. Honestly, this is a game-changer for my journaling process. I used to record voice notes when ideas struck me on the go, but then the thought of typing them all out later was a huge barrier. Now, Apple Notes automatically transcribes my audio, making it so easy to review my thoughts, pull out key reflections, or turn a spoken idea into a polished journal entry. It's incredibly accurate, and being able to search through my transcribed thoughts has streamlined my entire workflow. For anyone who uses voice notes for brainstorming or quick reflections, this feature alone makes the update worthwhile. Another surprisingly useful addition, especially for those who combine journaling with planning or tracking, is Math in Notes. While it might not seem like a direct journaling feature, I've found it incredibly handy. For example, if I'm journaling about my finances or tracking habits that involve numbers, I can now perform quick calculations directly within my notes. It's perfect for budgeting alongside my daily reflections or figuring out percentages for personal goals. It saves me from switching between apps, keeping all related information in one place. Highlighting has also seen a significant upgrade. For my digital journal, this means I can easily mark important passages, recurring themes, or key takeaways from my entries. It's like having a digital highlighter at my fingertips, allowing me to quickly scan and revisit the most impactful parts of my reflections. This makes reviewing my past thoughts so much more effective and helps me identify patterns in my progress or mood. I find myself using it to color-code different emotional states or significant events. And let's not forget Collapsible Sections – a small but mighty feature for organization. My digital journal entries can get quite long, especially on days when I have a lot to process. With collapsible sections, I can now neatly organize different parts of an entry, tuck away older thoughts, or create distinct sections for gratitude, goals, and daily reflections. It keeps my journal tidy and makes it much easier to navigate, preventing that overwhelming feeling of endless scrolling. It's a fantastic way to maintain structure without sacrificing the flow of my writing. Overall, these new Apple Notes features in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 have truly transformed my built-in note-taking app into a powerful, free digital journaling tool. If you haven't explored them yet, I highly recommend diving in. They prove that you don't always need a pricey subscription to keep your thoughts organized and accessible.
