Fantasy Will Forever Be My Favorite Genre

I am pretty sure the reason I stopped reading during the 2010s was because I couldn’t find any good fantasy. It had moved over to dystopian and paranormal romance which I just wasn’t into. Also high school got in the way I think and I wasn’t friends with many readers.

... Read moreFantasy as a genre has an unmatched ability to transport readers to magical worlds and vividly imagined realms, offering escapism and profound storytelling. Even though trends in the 2010s shifted toward dystopian and paranormal romance novels, the essence and appeal of true fantasy stories never faded for many devoted readers. The landscape of fantasy includes a diverse range of subgenres and themes; from high fantasy epics featuring noble families and heroic quests, to urban fantasy tales blending supernatural elements with modern settings. For example, novels like "The Eldest Daughter of a Noble Man" and series such as Brandon Sanderson’s "Emerald" and Sarah Hawley’s works exemplify the rich, imaginative storytelling that captivates fans. Readers often find themselves drawn to the depth of world-building found in fantasy — the layered political intrigue, the intricate magic systems, and the complex characters. Books that incorporate classic fantasy elements, like princesses navigating royal dramas or heroes battling ancient curses, continue to enchant through their timeless appeal. Moreover, communities like #bookrecommendation, #booktok, and #lemon8bookclubchallenge help keep the love for fantasy alive by facilitating conversations, recommendations, and shared reading experiences. For those who felt disconnected from reading during high school or periods dominated by other genres, re-engaging with fantasy can reignite the joy of storytelling and exploration. In conclusion, whether through classic tales or innovative new fantasy novels, the genre's ability to inspire imagination and emotional connection ensures it remains a beloved favorite among readers around the world.

in the way that campus novels can transcend genre, so too can the "aimless woman" novel! This is the name I've given to books centering directionless women seeking meaning or stability in their lives, for whatever reason. Such a simple premise but can be so rich if done correctly. Here
