Choosing to thrive in the eternal rat race ⚙️🐎

Has anyone else reached a point in their life where they feel like a cog in the machine? I find myself increasingly in that state of mind with work piling up in the office.

Feels like I’m reaching a crescendo. Is it because it’s the year of the horse and everything feels magnified and sped up??

Here are simple, achievable things I’ve committed to doing, to remind myself that life is more than work:

1. Slowing the heck down. Deep breaths, shoulders pressed away from the ears. Making time for decompressing activities like yoga. 🧘‍♀️

2. Noticing sunsets and beauty in the every day.

3. Having a sacred ritual, something I can return to daily to ground me.

4. Learning new things outside of work. What?? Adding more work outside of work?? Dunno bout you but gives me something else to look forward to✨

5. Making something with my hands 🤲🏻 my choice of is baking, but only if I have the energy to clean up after.

6. Having a small group of core friends who energise you, inspire you.

7. Remembering that it’s not a competition. Live your life at your own pace 🐌🐪

... Read moreIn navigating the constant demands of modern work life, I've found that embracing a slower pace truly helps maintain my mental health. Incorporating daily rituals like gentle yoga or mindful breathing not only reduces stress but also reconnects me with the present moment. It's fascinating how small acts, such as watching a sunset or even baking, can create pockets of joy and creativity that counterbalance the endless to-do lists. Building a close-knit circle of friends who uplift and inspire me has been another game changer. Having that support system makes the work challenges feel less isolating, and sharing experiences brings a sense of community that's invaluable. I used to believe learning new things outside of work added pressure, but now I see it as an investment in myself—something uplifting to look forward to, enriching both my skills and my outlook. Most importantly, I've learned to stop racing against others. Life isn’t a competition, and living at a pace that suits me helps me sustain my energy and happiness. Embracing this mindset shift has made the metaphorical 'rat race' feel less like a trap and more like a choice to thrive.
