Rapa Nui, or Easter Island, is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world, famous for its iconic Moai statues that dot the landscape. In December 2022, I had the opportunity to explore this incredible destination and immerse myself in its unique atmosphere. Flying from Santiago, Chile, the journey itself was part of the adventure. Upon arrival, I was captivated by the island's striking natural beauty, lush landscapes, and the endless ocean surrounding it. Each day, I watched the waves crash against the shore, a calming backdrop to my explorations. As I wandered through the island, I met numerous fellow travelers and locals, which made the experience even more enriching. Understanding the significance of the Moai statues is essential when visiting Rapa Nui. These ancient structures, which were erected between 1400 and 1650 CE, are thought to represent the ancestors of the Rapa Nui people. The mystery of how these colossal figures were transported and erected continues to intrigue historians and visitors alike. Aside from the Moai, Rapa Nui is home to stunning landscapes, such as the Rano Raraku quarry—where many of the statues were carved—and the breathtaking Anakena Beach, known for its soft white sands and crystal-clear waters.
