Be Present
This is most applicable in connection to our day to day tasks.
Think work, school, athletics, etc.
I learned this while living in Central America, I was there helping people improve their lives by sharing religious principles with them.
We wanted to help as many people as possible, so l tried to keep appointments at 30 minutes maximum, to allow for the most appointments in a day, while also not overloading with information to share.
This is what I found: When I was present, just thinking about where I was, who I was talking to and what they needed, the time went by faster, my execution was better and people were helped at a higher level.
On the contrary: when I was thinking about everything else I had that day, what I had done wrong earlier, etc I started to spend too much time in places, I did my job at a much lower quality and less people were helped.
Be present. Complete the task.
Being present is not only a mindfulness practice but also a compelling time management technique. When engaged fully in our tasks, whether at work or during a conversation, we unlock efficiency and effectiveness. By concentrating on what matters in the moment, we avoid distractions that typically lead to diminished performance and satisfaction. Studies indicate that mindfulness can boost performance in various spheres, from academic achievements to workplace productivity. For instance, athletes focusing on their current game rather than past mistakes or future outcomes showcase higher levels of success as they channel all their energy into each play. Similarly, in professional settings, employees who practice being present can cultivate better relationships with colleagues and clients, leading to improved outcomes. Mindfulness encourages a richer, more meaningful engagement with our activities, fostering creativity and problem-solving abilities. It’s essential to note that being present does not mean neglecting future tasks or previous errors. Instead, it's a balanced approach where one acknowledges past and future while firmly settling into the present moment, enriching the quality of each interaction and task.
