Back in February 2023, I took an incredible trip to Colorado—adventures, sightseeing, and so many great memories. I was so excited to share everything, but when I started going through the pictures, I had a moment of “wow… I’ve really let myself go.”
At the time, I weighed 268 lbs at 5’4”, and that was the wake-up call I needed.
I checked in with my doctor, made a plan, cleaned up my diet, and joined a gym. I lost 20 pounds… and then hit a plateau. That part was frustrating, but instead of quitting, I kept going. My doctor recommended the BMI program at Silver Cross, and I stuck with it.
The goal they gave me was 166. I gave myself a goal of somewhere between 140–150.
Today I stepped on the scale and saw 149.9.
It might not seem like a huge deal to everyone, but I haven’t seen a number starting with “14” in 15 years—and that means everything to me.
It wasn’t quick, and it definitely wasn’t perfect, but I kept showing up. If you’re in that stuck or frustrating stage right now, just keep going. It adds up more than you think.

Like many, I faced the frustration of hitting a plateau after initial success. It's a common experience in weight loss, and often the moment when people consider giving up. What really helped me push through was a combination of professional support and a mindset shift.
Joining the BMI program at Silver Cross was a game changer. It wasn’t just about losing pounds; it was about understanding my body’s needs and adopting sustainable habits. The program emphasized gradual progress and tailored guidance rather than quick fixes. This approach made it easier to maintain motivation, even when the scale didn’t move for weeks.
Another key factor was embracing vulnerability. Sharing my experience publicly, despite moments of self-doubt, created accountability and inspired others facing similar struggles. I found strength in numbers, connecting with online communities and friends who were also on body transformation paths. This collective encouragement kept me energized.
From a personal standpoint, cleaning up my diet wasn’t about drastic restrictions but about making better, nourishing food choices consistently. Coupled with regular gym sessions, this built a healthy routine. The joy I found in small victories – fitting into clothes I hadn’t worn in years or seeing that number starting with '14' on the scale – reminded me why perseverance was so important.
If you find yourself stuck or discouraged, remember it’s normal to encounter plateaus and setbacks. Keep showing up, find support systems, and take pride in every bit of progress. Weight loss is not just physical; it’s a mental and emotional journey too. Stay patient, stay strong, and trust that every small effort adds up to meaningful change over time.
