จากประสบการณ์การทำงานร่วมกับพระบวชใหม่ สิ่งที่สำคัญที่สุดที่ผมพบคือการทำให้พระเหล่านี้เข้าใจถึงความหมายแท้จริงของการบวช นั่นคือการฝึกตนเองเพื่อขัดเกลากิเลส ไม่ใช่หนีปัญหาหรือหวังสิ่งใด ๆ นอกเหนือจากการพัฒนาตนเองให้ดีขึ้น การยึดมั่นในพระวินัยถือเป็นรากฐานที่แข็งแรงพระใหม่ต้องฝึกฝนอย่างจริงจัง เพราะเมื่อพระวินัยดี พระศาสนาย่อมมั่นคง หากขาดพระวินัยแม้แต่ศีล 227 ก็จะสั่นคลอนตามไปด้วย นอกจากเรื่องวินัยแล้ว การรู้จักและชนะใจตัวเองคือความท้าทายที่แท้จริง หลายครั้งพระบวชใหม่ล้มเหลวเพราะแพ้ใจตนเอง ไม่ใช่เรื่องอื่น การฝึกสติ ความอดทน การวางอารมณ์ รวมทั้งการอยู่กับความเงียบเป็นเครื่องมือสำคัญในการชนะใจกิเลส ความกตัญญูต่อพระอุปัชฌาย์ พระอาจารย์ ครูบาอาจารย์ และญาติโยมผู้ศรัทธานั้น ส่งเสริมทั้งทางโลกและทางธรรม พระที่มีกตัญญูย่อมได้รับการสนับสนุนและเกิดความเจริญรุ่งเรืองในชีวิตบวช ส่วนเรื่องลาภ ยศ สรรเสริญก็เป็นสิ่งที่ต้องระวัง แม้พระบางรูปอาจดูมีชื่อเสียง แต่หากหลงยศหลงโลกออนไลน์ก็อาจนำไปสู่การแพ้กิเลสได้อย่างไม่รู้ตัว ดังนั้น "ยิ่งดัง...ยิ่งต้องสำรวม" คือคำเตือนที่สำคัญ สุดท้าย การสอนให้พระบวชใหม่เรียนรู้ทั้งทางทฤษฎีและปฏิบัติคู่กันอย่างสมดุล คือหัวใจของการเจริญในพระธรรม พระพุทธศาสนาเติบโตเพราะปริยัติ (การเรียนรู้), ปฏิบัติ (การปฏิบัติธรรม) และปฏิเวธ (การเห็นแจ้งในธรรม) การมีเมตตา อ่อนโยน และสุภาพ เป็นเสน่ห์ที่ลึกซึ้งของสมณะ พระที่คนกราบไหว้จริงไม่ได้เป็นเพราะความสามารถในการพูด แต่เพราะเป็นคนที่ทำให้ผู้คนรู้สึกสบายใจเมื่ออยู่ใกล้ ผมยังเห็นว่าการสอนด้วยการกระทำจริง ๆ ทำให้พระบวชใหม่จำง่ายขึ้น เพราะสิ่งที่คนเห็นมากกว่าสิ่งที่ฟัง การที่พระอาจารย์เป็นแบบอย่างที่ดีจึงสำคัญมาก "อตฺตานํ อุปมํ กเร" คือ การเอาตนเองเป็นเครื่องเปรียบเทียบ เป็นคำกล่าวที่ควรย้ำเสมอ การถ่ายทอดความรู้นี้ไม่ใช่แค่คำพูด แต่ต้องลงมือทำด้วยใจจริงเพื่อให้พระบวชใหม่ได้รับสิ่งที่ดีที่สุดและสามารถยืนหยัดในพระศาสนาได้อย่างงดงามและสงบสุขตามความตั้งใจที่แท้จริง
