Should I told him to bring a dish next potluck?

Yesterday, our office had another potluck in the break room. Everyone brought something: salads, roasted chicken, cheesy pasta, there was such a good spread. I was sitting in the corner about to grab a scoop of salad when I saw that one coworker walk in… empty-handed again, just carrying a big soda bottle.

During lunch, he loaded his plate up so high, chatting and laughing with people. This isn’t a one time thing, he almost always eats the most but brings next to nothing. I kept going back and forth in my head, should I say: “Hey, maybe bring a dish next time?” But I was scared it’d kill the vibe and make lunch super awkward.

By the end, he walked back to his desk with this satisfied smile and I just ate my food wondering about next potluck, do I let it slide again or finally say something?

Is he single? That could be it. Or maybe his wife, if he’s married doesn’t want to bother with it.Or money could be really tight as well. 🤷‍♀️You never know what’s happening with someone. Next time you have a pot luck you could assign something for him to bring. There’s always one in every group. I used to ask them to bring paper plates, cups, plastic forks and cups. Maybe he can contribute that way?

Why are you worried about what he's doing and not doing. Just enjoy the potluck with everyone else. Is it that important to humiliate him? Whenever, there was a company picnic or BBQ (potluck) not everyone bought something, but we didn't mind. There was enough food for everyone to enjoy and we even invited a branch that wasn't part of our potluck to join in on the food and festivities. Sometimes, it's better to just be present and enjoy the gathering.
