Bookcloth is my favourite so far, so I will be using that for endpages on my fanfic binds & rebinds. I initially wanted moire silk for them, but I already have a ton of bookcloth on the way and I didn't want to place another order yet 😂
This is using the same hinge gap width, same board thickness, and same bookcloth for the covers 😊
I will be switching to a thinner spine board for my future binds because I think it'll give it a nicer finish.
When experimenting with materials for bookbinding, especially for endpages, it's essential to consider both aesthetics and durability. Bookcloth stands out as a versatile choice that offers a professional look while ensuring longevity. Compared to alternatives like moire silk or canvas, bookcloth is generally easier to work with and often more affordable, making it a favorite among many binders. In my personal experience, testing various materials such as photo paper, canvas, and bookcloth showed that bookcloth holds up better over time and enhances the structural integrity of the book. Using consistent hinge gap width and board thickness is crucial to create a uniform appearance and ensure the book opens smoothly without damaging the spine. Switching to a thinner spine board has also made a significant difference in the final appearance. It reduces bulkiness and creates a sleeker, more refined finish. If you’re rebinding fanfiction or other cherished works, investing in quality materials like bookcloth combined with careful measurements can elevate the binding to a professional standard. Additionally, experimenting with different textures and colors of bookcloth can add a personalized touch to your projects, making them unique and eye-catching. Remember, patience and small adjustments during the binding process will pay off in the final product's overall durability and beauty.
