Zed's Shadow Blades in DnD 5E

Hey fellow adventurers! As a huge fan of both League of Legends and DnD 5E, I’ve always dreamt of bringing some of my favorite champions' unique mechanics into our tabletop sessions. That's exactly why I dedicated time to creating Zed's Shadow Blades as a powerful set of homebrew artifacts for DnD 5E, designed to let you channel the deadly grace of the Master of Shadows. When I started thinking about Zed, it wasn't just about cool weapons; it was about capturing the feeling of the Order of Shadow – the precision, the mobility, the sudden bursts of damage. These aren't just any daggers; they are meant to be steeped in dark magic, requiring attunement to fully unlock their potential. Imagine wielding a pair of dual daggers that aren't merely for piercing, but also channel necrotic energy and allow for incredible shadow manipulation. They deal 2d6 Piercing Damage, but the real fun begins with their unique abilities. First up, Contempt for the Weak adds an extra 2d6 Necrotic Damage against low-HP creatures. This really emphasizes Zed's assassin playstyle, where you're looking to execute priority targets. Then there's Razor Shuriken, which lets you hurl spectral shurikens, dealing 2d6 Slashing Damage in a line on a failed DC 17 Dexterity Save. This is a fantastic area-of-effect option that truly feels like Zed, adding a ranged element that many melee builds might lack. It’s a great way to deal with groups or soften up targets before closing in. But the true game-changers are Living Shadow and Death Mark. Living Shadow allows for a potent shadow teleport ability, giving you incredible tactical flexibility. Teleporting up to 30 feet to avoid an attack and leaving a duplicate behind, then being able to swap places with it using movement for a full minute – that's pure Zed! It makes you incredibly hard to pin down and opens up so many strategic possibilities for flanking or escaping danger. This goes way beyond the official Shadow Blade 5e spell, offering a much more permanent and versatile shadow-based mobility. And finally, Death Mark. This ability is the ultimate expression of Zed's power. As an action, you surround a creature with shadow duplicates, gaining +5 AC against attacks from that creature, getting critical hits on an 18-20, and dealing additional Slashing Damage equal to any Necrotic Damage you dealt on your previous turn. It’s a high-stakes, high-reward ability that feels incredibly impactful, perfect for a boss encounter or a climactic duel. Of course, such power comes at a cost, requiring a long rest before it can be used again, ensuring it remains an epic moment. Thinking about integrating these into a campaign, consider a rogue or a shadow monk, or even a fighter looking for a darker edge. These blades are artifacts, so they should feel legendary. When considering DnD damage types, having Piercing, Necrotic, and Slashing available through these abilities gives you a versatile toolkit against various resistances and vulnerabilities.
