Pregnancy 5D Scan

Sharing my experience doing a 5D scan!

I did mine in JB at Sonobee Adda Heights. They have multiple other outlets in JB but that was the most convenient for me since I was heading to Mount Austin. Was a seamless experience booking and doing the scan - the only hiccup I had was the clinic was relatively difficult to locate. The clinic does not say Sonobee on the signboard, it looks just like a regular medical clinic (see pic 3).

You will need to book an appointment online through their website in advance and pay a deposit of 25RM. The remainder can be paid in cash at the clinic. They will ask if you would like to have a hard copy at 5 RM per photo, I did not opt for it and it cost less than 100RM including the deposit. The soft copies will be available on an app for you to download shortly after the appointment. They will guide you to download the app and how to see the photos.

I did mine at week 34, but the nurse did mention that this scan should be done earlier for better photos. The website also mentioned that the scan is best done in week 28-32. The scanning process was pretty fast, but it largely depends whether your baby is cooperative to take the photos! If your baby face is not facing correctly, it might be challenging for them to get good scans, but they will try to make you cough so that the baby moves. However ultimately whether you get good pictures really depends, mine wasn’t exactly in the right position even after several attempts so I just made do with what was taken. In general I feel it is still a good experience at that price, what was visible from the scan still looks kind of like my baby especially the nose and cheeks! Good to get a small sneak peak of your baby!

... Read moreHaving been through the 5D pregnancy scan myself, I’d love to share a few extra points to help future parents make the most of this experience. Firstly, timing is really important. Although I took my scan at 34 weeks, many experts and clinics recommend doing it between 28 and 32 weeks for clearer and more detailed images. The baby tends to be less cramped and has a better chance of facing forward during that period, increasing the likelihood of getting beautiful facial views. Booking in advance online is usually necessary, especially at popular clinics. Paying a small deposit helps secure your spot and speeds up the process when you arrive. Keep in mind that some clinics won’t have obvious signage—just like in my experience at a place that looked like a regular medical clinic—so it’s a good idea to check exact directions or call ahead if you’re unsure. The cost tends to be quite reasonable. At the clinic I attended, the package was under 100RM including the deposit, with the option to purchase physical photo prints at a small additional fee. Most of the time, the images are accessible through a user-friendly app that lets you download soft copies instantly after the scan. During the scan, the baby’s cooperation largely dictates the quality of the images. If the baby’s face isn’t visible or is turned away, the staff might ask you to cough gently or change positions to encourage movement. However, sometimes the baby just doesn’t cooperate, so it’s best to go with the flow and appreciate the sneak peek you do get. From my perspective, even with some limitations, a 5D scan is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your unborn child and see features like the nose and cheeks that really feel personal and heartwarming. It’s also a memorable keepsake for parents, offering a glimpse of the little one before birth. For anyone considering it, I’d say the experience is definitely worth it—just be prepared for some unpredictability and cherish the moments you get! If you’re in JB or nearby, clinics like Sonobee Adda Heights can be a good choice, but always read recent reviews and confirm details beforehand. This small but special investment can add excitement and joy to your pregnancy journey, making the anticipation even sweeter.
