My hair journey 🍋💋

Hey y’all! 💕 I’m Niyah, aka your favorite stitch braider. 🫶🏽

I wanted to introduce myself and share a little about what I do as a home-based hairstylist.

I wasn’t always the best braider. I spent countless days practicing on mannequin heads, watching videos, and putting in the time to perfect my craft. There were moments when I wanted to give up. I even tried focusing on other hairstyles, but I always felt drained.

Crazy, right? If you love doing hair, how could you feel drained?

Then I found my passion: stitch braids. 🎨 They allow me to be creative, and there are so many different ways to make each style unique. I’m still learning every day, but when I look back at where I started, I can see how much my parting, stitching, and overall technique have improved. 🥹

I’ve been taking my hair business seriously since 2024, and seeing my growth has reminded me that consistency really pays off.

I’m so excited to bring you all along on this journey. Thank you for being here! 🫶🏽✨

... Read moreStarting out as a novice in hair braiding can be quite challenging. Like many home-based hairstylists, I remember the countless hours spent practicing on mannequin heads, which was crucial in building my confidence and improving my technique. Watching tutorial videos and continuously experimenting with different parting and stitching methods helped me refine my craft. One thing I learned is that even when you love something as much as I love hairstyling, it’s normal to feel drained sometimes. The key is to push through these moments and look for a niche that truly excites you. For me, that was discovering stitch braids—a style that combines creativity and technical skill, giving each hairstyle a unique flair. Consistency is vital in honing any craft. Since I took my hair business seriously starting in 2024, the growth I've experienced is incredible. Every new braid taught me something new about precision and artistic expression. The satisfaction of seeing my clients happy with their unique stitch braids fuels my motivation. Being a home-based stylist also gives a personal touch and flexibility that large salons often lack. It allows for a more intimate service and helps me focus on perfecting styles that cater to individual preferences. If you’re considering a journey similar to mine, I recommend dedicating time for practice, embracing patience, and staying curious about new braiding techniques. Finally, never underestimate the power of passion. It can turn repetitive practice into an exciting creative process. For anyone struggling with motivation, finding that one style or technique that lights up your enthusiasm—like stitch braids did for me—can make all the difference.

A year ago I decided to get my blonde moved up, the stylist put me under the heater to process and it fried my hair. I had to cut 3 inches off a month later. It’s been a year now and I decided to cut the rest off and it feels so much better. It’s shorter but I love it and it will grow out. #Lemon8
