Not me casually picking back up a DIY I started… a year ago 😅
If you’ve ever had a project that lives in your house half-finished for months (or longer), just know, you’re my people.
This DIY bay window bench has seen maybe 3 strong weekends of progress… and about 50 weekends of “I’ll get to it next week.” But finally I am seeing the light at the end of this dreamy tunnel and am ready to share it with you all!
But we’re finally back on it, and I’m taking you with me every step of the way until it’s DONE 🙌
Seriously though, real life DIY doesn’t happen in a weekend. I always have the highest hopes of a “quick project,” but ultimately it happens in the margins of busy schedules, soccer games, work, and everyday life.
So take it from me, it’s totally okay if you have a DIY project sitting unfinished from months or over a year ago. Just do it on your time! You got this 👍

Tell me—what’s your “I swear I’m finishing this soon” project? 👀
Starting a DIY project like a bay window bench can feel exciting at first, but real life often intervenes with packed weekends, family time, and work obligations, leading to delays. From my personal experience, finishing such home projects requires patience and a flexible mindset. One key lesson is to break the project down into manageable tasks and celebrate small progress milestones — whether that’s planning the design, gathering materials, or the actual build weekends. Using inspiration from my own DIY bay window bench, I kept reminding myself that it’s perfectly okay for projects to take time. Instead of feeling guilty or rushed, I embraced working on it in chunks, fitting the work around everyday commitments. This approach made the process less stressful and much more enjoyable. If you’re dealing with an unfinished DIY like a breakfast nook seat or any home decor project, don’t let perfectionism slow you down. Things like saving an outlet placement or prepping the seat install might seem small but are essential steps toward the final transformation. Documenting the progress also encouraged me to keep going, sharing updates with friends who cheered me on. Ultimately, the satisfaction of seeing your once 'to be finished' project evolve into a beautiful, functional space is worth every delayed weekend. So, whether your DIY bench has been on hold for months or even a year, remember: your pace is the right pace. Keep chipping away when time allows, and look forward to the moment when it’s DONE!
