Would you call her out or just let it go?

I got married last month after a 22-month engagement it was everything my husband and I dreamed of. We spent so much time picking every little detail to make it ours.

Now my sister’s planning her own wedding for next year… and it’s starting to look like a copy-paste of mine. She booked the same photographer, officiant, violinist, even the same videographer — without even seeing his work first. She’s using my decor, got her dress from the same boutique, and is literally recreating our Polaroid guest book idea and scrapbook table setup.

At first, I thought it was sweet that she liked my taste. But now it just feels… weird. Like my wedding isn’t special anymore. I get that no one owns wedding ideas, but it stings knowing she didn’t even try to make it her own.

Would you talk to her about it, or just let it go and accept that imitation is “flattery”?

... Read moreSeeing your sister replicate your wedding plans so closely can evoke a complex mix of emotions, from flattered to frustrated. It’s important to acknowledge your feelings because your wedding day is deeply personal and special. One helpful approach is to communicate openly with your sister. Express how much effort you put into making your wedding unique and how seeing the same details duplicated impacts you. Choose a calm moment to share your thoughts kindly rather than confrontationally, focusing on your feelings rather than accusing her. Keep in mind that imitation often comes from admiration—your sister may genuinely like the elements you chose and want to incorporate them into her special day. However, encouraging her to add her own creative touches can help her wedding feel just as meaningful and personal. Suggest brainstorming together—perhaps adapting the Polaroid guest book or scrapbook table with new colors or themes that reflect her personality. It’s also useful to set boundaries if certain vendors or decor are off-limits to avoid future conflict. Maybe your sister could explore different photographers or videographers to capture her wedding from a unique perspective, even if the style is similar. Ultimately, remember that while weddings are celebrations of love and individuality, family dynamics matter too. Striking a balance between protecting your memories and supporting your sister can preserve harmony. If addressing the issue directly feels overwhelming, consider seeking advice from trusted friends or a counselor to navigate these feelings. Your wedding day memories remain special because of the love and moments shared, not just the details. Sharing this perspective might help you appreciate the situation and your sister’s intentions, even if her choices initially sting. Handling this with empathy can strengthen your relationship and make both weddings beautiful in their own way.

Girl, you are totally within your right to feel unsettled by your sisters wedding idea. It absolutely sounds like a copy, rather than her drawing inspiration. While the things like videographer/photographer, violinist (unless violin is something you/your partner specifically chose with no shared interest w/ sister), and even Polaroid idea are understandable. However, your officiant (unless a VERY CLOSE family member/friend), decor, and even the dress are really hard to understand. If I was you, I would voice my opinion in way that doesn’t seem like you’re “jealous or upset” but rather “trick” her into thinking different ideas are “better”. If you come to her as “oh wow, I really liked *insert thing* , but I wished we could’ve been able to do *alternative* instead! It was so cute!!” If she’s resistant to these ideas, try to ask her thoughts on why these specific things are important to her?

I get your point of view. I would keep telling my family member oh I already did that in my wedding to be more annoying lol if you are close like that to your I would straight up tell her to be more creative. But she could just be inspired by and doesn’t wanna go though all the finding a good photographer, decor , dress etc. It’s a lot for people and they do take the safer route.
