Unlike the rest of our skin, lips don't have oil glands, making them super vulnerable to dehydration, harsh weather, sun exposure, and even certain medications. When they're already dry and exposed, they can quickly become painful and even start to bleed, which is a sign of needing serious TLC! When it comes to lip balm, it's more than just a quick fix. Think of it as a barrier and a hydrator. Look for ingredients like shea butter, beeswax, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, or vitamin E. I always keep a good quality 'hydra-restore lip balm' in my bag, applying it liberally throughout the day, especially before going outside and before bed. It locks in moisture and prevents that irritating water loss, which is crucial for preventing them from drying out further and becoming 'chapped bleeding lips'.
