... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to dive deeper into my Persona 5 AU with you all, especially focusing on my original character, Statuo Sanchez, in this third installment. Creating OCs for the Persona universe is such a blast, and I've poured a lot of thought into how Statuo fits within that iconic world, especially with his unique story and aesthetic.
When I started designing Statuo, I really wanted to capture that blend of mystery and charisma that Persona characters often have. His primary disguise, which I've imagined as a 'cutesy magician look,' is central to his persona (pun intended!). I love the idea of someone who seems charming and a bit whimsical on the surface, but hides a deeper, more complex nature underneath. This duality is a cornerstone of the Persona series, and it’s something I strive to portray with Statuo. His horned, one-eyed mask, featuring a star-shaped eye, isn't just for show – it's a direct reflection of his associated Tarot card, The Star, and his inherently optimistic mindset, even when facing significant challenges. I feel like the mask truly encapsulates his hopes and perhaps his hidden vulnerabilities, making him a character I hope you'll find intriguing.
Now, let's talk about his Persona: Icarus! Choosing a Persona is such a critical part of an OC's identity in this universe. For Statuo, I felt Icarus, from Greek mythology, was a perfect fit. The story of Icarus, who crafted wings but flew too close to the sun, is incredibly symbolic. It speaks to ambition, perhaps a touch of recklessness, and the consequences of pushing boundaries. For Statuo, I envision his Persona Icarus representing his soaring aspirations and desire for freedom, but also the potential pitfalls of his idealism. The winged form of Icarus symbolizes liberation, but the underlying myth also hints at a journey that might push Statuo to his limits, forcing him to confront his own hubris or overconfidence. It’s a powerful metaphor for self-discovery and growth, which is what Persona is all about.
Thinking about the classic 'I am thou, thou art I' moment, I imagine Statuo's awakening with Icarus would be incredibly dramatic, a true confrontation with his repressed self. It’s about accepting all parts of who you are, the light and the shadow, to gain true power. That's the beauty of Persona – it’s not just about flashy powers, but profound psychological journeys.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on Statuo and Icarus! Do you have any Persona 5 OCs? What kind of AUs do you enjoy creating or exploring for your own characters? Sharing our creative ideas makes the Persona community even stronger!
